Post op cuts astigmatism

I have been called into hospital in tomorrow to have insertions or cuts to help bring down my bad astigmatism.

It's in my left eye with is 2 years post cornea graft as I have KC.

Does anyone know if this procedure will be good? As my vision is terrible at the moment. And is it a very minor op? Like will I be able to go back to work the next day.

Hope you can help put my mind at rest . Thanks.

Steve

Hi Steve
I've certainly heard of other people having this done to improve post graft astigmatism and I believe it works pretty well. Not sure whether you'll be able to return to work the next day, but it's a much more minor op than the original graft.
All the best
Anne

Hi Steve.

Hope it went well today.

Can i ask how much astigmatism you had, and how much your doctor thinks he can reduce it by?
I have quite a high astigmatism post op, and may be having this done at some point too.

Cheers
Tom

Hi I'm just awaiting surgery now. My astigmatism is extremely bad top of the scale. He said normally it's reduced by hopefully 50 percent after the op but It may take severel weeks to take effect. There are cases he has had though where nothing changes. So they can either do it again then if nothing helps they can do some form of laser sugary to it.

Had the operation. Went ok no rejection etc. Was only in surgery for 25 mins.

Eye is very uncomfortable as expected. But im sure this will all go away in 2-3 days.

It was noticeable straight away that the astigmatism has gone down. I could never see ppls faces on the tv when sat down in my front room but I could do just about when I got home from surgery. So it's very promising. Needs to settle down first though before I can get too excited.

Thats good news.

I am eager to learn more about the procedure. Can you tell me what they did? where they made cuts, how many? how deep? etc...

I have to wear glasses at a -6 CYL which is quite high, so high that the glasses give me a headache :(

It's hard for me to understand what he did even though I was awake. I think he made 3 different cuts at precise places that relaxes the steepest parts of the cornea. I may be completely wrong though.

All I do know is that it's the best decision I made so far as the astigmatism has been greatly reduced. I will know better in 4 weeks how much it's helped. But so far I can read a numberplate across the road and b4 I couldn't even make out there was a numberplate there.

That's great news, Steve. I hope things continue to improve over the next few weeks.
