Night Driving

Hi,

For the first time in ages, I have driven late at night and now find the on-coming traffic and street lights very painful, luckily, I was the passenger as I would not have been able to drive.

Does anyone know if night driving glasses will help and can you recommend what type I should look for.

Regards,

Simon.

Simon

my car has anti glare windscreens. I find they help. I am not sure that you can add an antiglare coating but the manufacturer will probably offer a variant. Antiglare lenses for your prescription glasses may also help.

All the best.

Thanks, but I'm afraid neither option is suitable.

I often change my car so having the screen coated every time will cost a fortune and I don’t wear glasses anymore.

Are off the shelf night driving glasses any good?

Putting an anti glare coating onto a car windscreen is illegal, the only coating you can put on a windscreen is a security film but that hos no anti glare properties.

You can do a google search for Night Driving Glasses or if an anti glare coating for glasses works for you as it did form me when I wore RGP lenses is to get plane glasses with the coating on from an opticians. I did this because it meant I could try different coatings from the trial glasses they had.

The best long term relief I have found to glare from night driving and the starburst from on coming headlingts is a complete change of contac lenses. My RGP lenses did cause some problems especially if the inside of the windscreen is dirty. The problems were never enough to mean I couldn't drive at night bit since ditching RGP lenses for the soft lenses designed for KC and irregular corneas, I am no longer light sensitive and for 18 months now, I don't get any glare or starbursts around lights or oncoming traffic.
