Scleral lens

Postby Stef23 » Sun 28 Mar 2010 9:10 am

I was fitted with a scleral lens two weeks ago (I am awaiting a cornea transplant for my other eye). Today my "scleral lens" eye is very red, sore and painful and I am unable to wear my lens. I am really worried about it. Has anyone had experience of this?

Hello there and welcome to the forum!

I have tried with scleral lenses but sadly didn't get very far with them. What you are saying could be where you have rubbed the front of your eye putting the lens in, or your eye is getting used to the solution you fill the lens with.

I would leave the lens out for a while and see how it feels, is the vision any worse with the lens in? If in any doubt go back to your optometrist who can check the fitting to make sure that it is all ok.

Best of luck with it and let us know how you get on!

if your eye is still 'very red, sore and painful' without the lens in then i would say you should go to see a doctor (opthalmologist) at A&E to make sure it isn't a corneal ulcer or infection. especially if it is sensitive to the light....
