Also could you open your eyes? and most of all, how long did it take for you guys to recover?
I would really appreciate the feedback, Thank you for spending the time to read this.

Re: Got my graft
Hi Mabs,
well done.. that should be the worst over!
your pain and watering sounds normal to me. my grafted eye was painful and gooed up for quite a few days, and the other eye also felt sensitive to the light- perhaps only in my mind... but uncomfortable none the less. i stayed in a dark room for about a week (except for doctor visits) and couldn't watch tv or read or anything...
i kept sane by listening to audio books on a little cd player.... and sleeping...
i remember not being able to open my grafted eye at all, and had to pry it open to get the drops in, but it improves quickly. follow the doctors instructions WRT drops and let us know if you have any other queries...

Re: Got my graft
My eye was gunged up for couple of days too and other eye was sensitive to light as the pupils react together. The watering is a good sign as this means your lid margins are lubricating the eye well so the skin should recover smoothly.
I also couldnt watch tv/read etc so listened to audiobooks and slept a lot. Look at my blog at http://www.mycorneatransplant.blogspot.com and scroll all the way down the page and click older posts until you get to the first couple of posts. this will give you info on how long it took to get the white of the eye back etc. Also on how long I wore the protection at night.
Hope this helps.

Watch our for the signs of rejection and if you think that there is anything out of the ordinary go back to your clinic.
R REDNESS
S SENSITIVITY TO LIGHT
V VISION DECREASE
P PAIN
There is a lot of advice on the www about care of a transplanted cornea. I rather like the download at

Re: Got my graft
Hi Mabs
This early after the operation it's perfectly natural to be very light sensitive. And your eye will probably look a bit bloodshot for a week so it probably would look red if you could open it! I imagine you'll have a follow up appointment to check on your graft in the next few days. Hopefully the doctor will be able to reassure you that all is going well. When I had my grafts over 20 years ago, the norm was to stay in hospital for 3 or 4 days after the operation. So there were lots of nurses and doctors around checking that all was well. I always think that nice as it is to be able to go home quickly, it's harder in some ways for people now when you're suddenly on your own so soon after surgery.
All the best

Re: Got my graft
Just stick with it if you can mabs.
When i had mine done i was really strict with myself and made sure i did so frustratingly little (audiobooks helped)
Remember your main job now is to heal, the better start you get at it, the better it will be in the long run.
All the best
