hi folks ,
I have been registered on here before , but since lost that email account and cant remember the details - so apologies for doing a semi duplicate post.
so here's my question it is particularly general and i am well aware that most clinics will approach things differently but:
I have my first hospital eye exam tomorrow to confirm my KC and i was wondering what to expect in the tests?
thanks folks ,
Nick

Hi Nick, welcome back!
It has been a long time since my first examination at a hospital, but I guess there are others who are better able to answer.
I think my son had a laser topography (something that did not exist when I started).
All the best
Andrew

What is it for?
Measuring the shape of your corneal surfaces.
When is this done?
Initial screening and during post-operative appointments.
What actually happens?
You will rest your chin on a padded support and stare straight into the examining instrument. The clinician sits in front of you and shines a bright light into your eye to help align the instrument properly. They will ask you to open your eyes widely, to take a number of multi-coloured pictures that are printed and added to your pre-operative report. The different colours on these pictures, like a topographic map, will show the different elevations of your corneal surface(s) and the thickness profile of your cornea.
How does it feel?
You feel nothing as the instrument doesn’t make contact with your eye.

Thanks folks , some helpful stuff ..
I was a bit nervy a week ago but i have started to cool down a bit - just trying still to adapt to the KC particularly trying to explain to my parents why i avoid driving at night - the glare and halos is something so easy to identify to the sufferer but not easy to explain to those with "normal" eyes.
after some unsatisfactory experiences with my local mainstream "should've gone to ..." branch i went back to the local opticians and the first thing he did was to refer me on - and took great care in telling me what he could about KC and what options may be presented .
I am not sure whether i am getting a dilated pupil exam aswell or not , but i'll find out tomorrow . I seem to have 2 appointments with different Opthal's too so god only knows how long i'll be there but will be nice to possibly get some action on it .
