hi everybody,my dry eye(also have keratoconus) is really quite bad at the moment and i would like to know what you would recommend me to use,at the moment i am wearing glasses but have been told that it is very likely when i go to hospital i will have to have hard contacts,thank you xfloflo

There are a number of preparations on the market that aim to replace part of the tear layer; I use Clinitas Soothe, others use Systane, others yet use Hypromelose or Carbomer or Optive ... ... ...

It would be impossible to say that any one drop is suitable for all, but there are so many that most of us is able to find at least one that we can use. Just one word of caution; always read the leaflet that comes with your eyedrops. I think that most drops with preseravative suggest you not use them more than 4 times a day, and some even suggest limiting use to a week or so.

There are lots of different causes and types of dry eye, and what you use to treat/alleviate symptoms will depend largely on what is going on. I would strongly recommend asking your optometrist about which drops/treatments would be best for you, as he/she will have examined your tear quality and will hence have more of an idea of what the best course of action to take is. thank you for the replys. when i wake up my eye feels really dry and heavy and a little painful ,just want to know if its better to wait say half an hour to see if it feels better or would it be a better idea to put eye drops in,at the moment i am waiting for some eyedrops to arrive and so have not been putting anything in my eye ,and i find it feels better after an hour or so ,thank you,

Never put a lens into an eye that is already sore. By all means apply some drops and when your eye is feeling nice and moist you could think about inserting a lens.

What does this entail?

Who is best qualified to diagnose and prescribe treatment for Dry eye? (GP, optician, NHS optom, NHS contact lens optom, NHS consultant eye specialist?)
