I am 29 and I have KC in my right eye for under 3 years now. In that time, I had my prescription for my glasses change 5 times. A few months ago, I tried a gas permeable contact lens. All it did was to make my eye very raw and streaming with tears. Was told that I required INTACs in my right eye as unable to cope with contact lenses.

Now I have an appt to discuss the INTACs and I want to go ahead with the procedure. My question is how long does it normally take between measuring up (or whatever) to the operation?

First of all, if you can't get on with RGP lenses, there are many other contact lens types, including soft lenses and hybrid lenses (a combination of RGP and soft), that you could be fitted with without resorting to surgery and that would be a good deal more comfortable.

Secondly, the time taken between consultation and surgery depends a lot on whether you are seen through the NHS or privately. In a perfect world, you could be measured up one day and operated on the next but actual time between the two depends on so many factors, such as availability of surgeons and operating theatres for a start, you need to ask the centre you are being seen at.
