Dear All,

After a rough three days, completely KC unrelated!

1) Friday 13th; Car catches fire as I move the car off the driveway

2) Part with much cash for a new car as to replace the bit that cought fire is over £1000 and is not coverd by insurance as it was mechanical failure of a non-service item :x

3) After enjoying the sun on Sunday my car wins first place where I get presented with a borken trophy I am told to get repaired :?

Sow when I gets home you can understand that I am in need of a glass of wine :) No beer you see

Now I do not drink red wine often, but I found after 2 glasses I had enterd into a conversation about Eurovision  My wife asks if I have my lenses in and I say "No". So how come you can read the subtitles then?

I was extremely shocked at what I could see. Has anyone else experienced this?

Still have some of it left, I will see if the same happens again :D

If it does, would I be able to get funding for further research? :P

Never noticed this with white wine

Now the boring bit, in no way am I suggesting alcholol is good for KC, this is just something I discoverd at the weekend.

How long have u had KC?

I noticed something not all too dissimilar but that only occured 2-3 yrs into KC pregression. Sometimes my eyes would relax, ever put your finger to the side of your eyelid and push, well thats what it was like at the start, if I squinted it improved or leaned my head back the tightening of my lower eyelid brough sharper vision.
Funny thou, when it got windy, my eyes would water and the 'tears' helped me see better probably due to some optic issues thru extra tears acting like a lens or magnifying glass.

At a stretch I'd hazard a guess that when u drank the wine it had an affect on the muscles surrounding your eye, making a slight temp change to the surface of the eye itself ...

However or whatever, sorry to hear about your car ... I didn't realise it was Friday 13th until the next day so I was immune to any weirdness for a change !

So yu had a good weekend then lol

Are you just making excuses to drink red wine!!

Thats an interesting outcome....Id be inclined so say that i may have had something to do with the alcohol and a sligh increase in eye pressure?....as a minute increase in eye pressure can change the vision dramatically......

Knight....I still do the same with the lid thing to get better vision lol....sometimes when in front of tv without lenses I do that trick and it works ok lol..and agree with the tear thing as well......but guess thats a little like a lens..as the cornea is being coating with an even film and creating a more even refractive surface

I go with the poke in the eye technique and hydration of what ever means does give better vision for a short while.

Feel awful now admitting that - sure its not a good thing.

Knight; I've had KC for 20 years and graft for 17 and 18 years, left and right eye a year apart.

Yes it is an excuse for a drink!

Scientifically though alcohol does cause muscles to relax which might help in my particular case for KC so the eye comes in to its normal shape. Alcohol also causes dehydration which is why most drunks see blurs. Just so happens these are probably causing my eyes to take on a more 'normal' shape!

Just need to avoid the alcohol breaking down to aldehydes and ketones in the blood as these are the toxins the brain hates and causes the headaches in hangovers!

Does it show that I am an R&D Chemist!

Nearly time to go home in purly in the interest of science and KC research I will repeat the weekends experiment with a couple of glasses of wine.

Hope this cheered people up with something light hearted.

CHEERS EVERYONE :D

Thanks Knight Thats Wizzard!!!

Can I take the boxing gloves into my Opthalmologist and tell him that these will stop me going blind.

He's tried the same with Contact lenses and my vision is still deteriorating.

That all made me smile after a low day..you know what I mean and we have all had them!

Anyway, the poking the side of eye thing I was doing for ages before I was told I had KC and it still helps now, I guess it reshapes the cornea in someway? Same with the tears/fluid in eye, that works a treat if only for a few secs!

I bet everyone that has read this thread gives the eye a poke....has to be in the outer corner for me!!

Dave.
