Hi everyone

I am due to have my surgery in a week or so - and wondered if anyone knew where I can buy eye patches from, so I can protect my eye from dust particles when i go out. Also I am looking for a pair of dark glasses which seal around the eye like goggles. if anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

All the best with your upcoming surgery. You can get eye patches at any pharmacist, but the hospital will probably send you home with at least one eyeshield.

Moorfields will send you home the evening of the op with an eye shield taped in place.
You'll keep the eye patch after your next-day appointmnet.
What you WILL need is some micropore tape to haold it in place.
You can get this at most pharmacies, and quite possibly supermarket supermarkets.
Or from the Firends of Moorfields shop on the ground floor.
WHile you're shopping - the eye drops will need to be kept in the fridge once you've opened them.
If you intend to be out and about in the first couple of months, gets a cool pack or equivalent.
I used one of those cooler sleeves for going round bottles of white wine. the Friends shop also sell purpose-made eye drop bottle cooler packs.
For wrap=around sunglasses try either the RNIB showroom/shop, or else a company called Cobolt Systems (they make a lot of adaptive equipemnt for blind/PS people, such as talking kicthen scales, clocks, etc, and lots of varieties of dark glasses. Mine came from there (and are polarising).
RNIC showroom is in Judd Street, near Kings Cross and a fairly short us ride from outside Moorfields front door (you really wanted to knw that!!!)

Best of luck next week. Am personally i didnt need any special equipment after the surgery . you get a hard shield in the hospital i wore that for the 4 days i was in the hospital and then 2 days at home then i took it off while in the house . after that i did need to wear some sunglasses in the car and outside and stuff. i find 3 months on that i dont need them any more . .

you will need the tape though that is good advice i found it hard to find in ireland. i still wear the shield i got at night as i would be afraid that i would rub my eye in my sleep or be face down in the pillow or some thing .

Also sotck up on saline as u wil need it to wash your eye each morning
