Sunglasses: it is a good idea to get hold of sunglasses that exclude over 70% of light. I think that they go up to 95%. I found sunspecs designed for skiing the best, but you can get good quality (but not good looking) light excluders from the RNIB online shop.

Failing that, a good pair from an outdoor shop will be up to the job!

All the best

Oh crumbs, that does sound like quite a palaver.
HOpe things settle down with the pressure readings, and the pain goes.
DO keep us posted with news

Simon is doing much better now. I have just come back from holiday and he seems much better now. He had to go back to East Grinstead last Tuesday for a check up after his op and the doctor said "let me check your contact lens" Simon said what contact lens? Apparently he should have had one fitted after the op but they forgot to put one on! Anyway they said he was doing fine, but they want him to carry on going to East Grinstead for check up's and not his own consultant as originally planned because his operation was more complex than orginally thought and MR Dyer wants to check him himself. They did say he could go back to work for light duties in 2 weeks but as Simon is a HGV mechanic they said he wasn't to go back until they says so.

He is still getting pain but not as much. Simon says he can already see much better than he did before. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that he doesn't get a rejection, which can still happen.

Will keep you updated.

A rejection remains possible, but not likely, for many years to come. The easy mnemonic is RSVP

Redness
Sensitive to light
Vision decrease
Pain (It can be just scratchy or feel like something is in the eye.)

Any of these symptoms should take you to the ophthalmology clinic.

Also: you can get good advice on care of the post-graft eye at http://www.permanente.net/homepage/kaiser/pdf/32258.pdf (although you should insert your own ophthalmologist's name in place of the one in the sheet.)

All the best

Up to now Simon is continuing to do ok. He says his eye feels like he has grit in it and he does get some pain, but the doctor says he is doing ok up to now. He is seeing his normal consultant today at our local hospital. This consultant wanted to see Simon when the op was done. He thought he was going to be doing the follow-up appointments but Mr Dayer (not sure of spelling) wants to do that himself. That is good except we have to do a 10 hour trip every time. At the moment we are taking it in turns to take him, so it isn't left to me all the time.

Good to hear Simon is doing well. The grity feeling is probaly the sensation of the eye lid rubbing over the knots of the stitches. This does go with time as the eye lid toughens up. He'll get a similar sensation when the stitches are gradually removed but for most the irritation when the stitches are removed doesn't last long.
