Hello all ,

I was just wondering if anyone here has keratoconus and diplopia?
If anyone does how do you deal with both at the same time?

I've tried wearing an eye patch to stop everything from being double, but wearing an eye patch at school in my classes lead to alot of bullying, in the end I couldn't take it anymore so I don't wear the eye patch at University for this reason.

I had an operation three years ago to fix the diplopia, unfortunately the operation didn't fix the problem but now both my eyes look like im staring straight even though im seeing double so at least thats a positive (although it was a kinda cool trick at times).

We do get posts from time to time about this; and I am really sorry to hear that your recent surgery did not solve the problem for you.

In a moment, somebody will be along with helpful advice on how they cope with diplopia along with KC.

If you havent already done so I would try returning to your Optometrist .Alternatively you could perhaps ask for referral to an Orthoptist who may be able to deal with the diplopia better?
As you say a patch is far from ideal and you should exhaust all other options before you succumb to wearing a patch.

I've been to see two Opthamologists(i don't know if thats similar to a orthoptist) who have both said unfortunately there is nothing more that can be done for the time being, they could try the operation again but there really wouldn't be much point as it is almost certain to fail once again. One said that I was unlucky to have both KC and diplopia and that I should go and buy a lottery ticket and see if my luck is with that - so tomorrow I'm going to buy a lottery ticket just for fun and who knows maybe my luck will be there.

Whilst an ophthalmologist is a specialist eye doctor and in theory the highest authoriuty on eyes Orthoptists know their own field inside out. Orthoptists will treat those suffering from problems relating to ocular motility, binocular vision, amblyopia (lazy eye) or strabismus (squint). IMO it is well worth trying an Orthoptist as well as buying that lottery ticket!
