Hi guys

I can def agree with Tom on the whole weight thing. It is amazing how doing nothing for a few weeks can pile the pounds on quickly!!

Good luck with the graft Shahar and my advice would be listen to a) your consultant b) your body and take it REALLY easy for the first few weeks as it will pay off later on :)

You can definitely participate in sports after a corneal transplant. I had my surgery over a year ago and I continue to swim and run marathons.

Have you gone skydiving after surgery?

Colette

welcome to the forum; you are right, life does not end with a corneal graft. We have to take care of our graft, especially in the early months, but I know of people who carry on with all sorts of sporting activities after their graft has settled and stabilized.

Hi all,

Well, i've gone through graft ~4 month ago, the surgeon managed to do a DALK and it all looks pretty good.
I got back to running (easy) 2 weeks after the graft, and this Friday I'm running a 1/2 marathon in Tel Aviv.
With the swim my surgeon asked me to wait till after 3 month after the graft as he was afraid of infections, now i'm back to swim which is great.
The only thing I still avoid is mountain biking, but i suppose i'll go back to the trails soon.

thanks all for your advises!
Shahar

Shahar

תן לנו לדעת כמה זמן לוקח לך לסיים את מרתון תל אביב.

:D
תודה רבה translate: many thanks

Now I'm in a catch situation... I was planning to accompany a friend in the 1/2 marathon who is a 1st timer and will probably run much slower than i usually do. Now since i need to post my result, I suppose I'll have to plan differently :)
Anyway I'll let you know.

Shahar

My ophthalmologist told me I could lift heavy weights a week after my pending DALK surgery.

I think that the key here is that we should allow ourselves to be guided by our ophthalmologist. There are so many variables in this that advice given to one may not apply to others.

All the best

maybe it was just psychologist effect, however whenever I had to lift heavy weight after my DALK I felt some soreness in my eye... so i'm trying to avoid it.
In the last meeting it was observed that my inner eye pressure is rising... I'll continue to wait with the weights and focus on my running and swimming :)
