Subjects needed for new lens training workshops!

Postby sophietw » Tue 31 Mar 2009 9:08 am

Hello All,

I hope it's OK to post this on here! I'm an Optometrist and I have been fitting a new type of lens for a year now, which is suitable for keratoconics and post graft patients (as well as for healthy eyes), called 'SoClears'. They are RGP's but much larger than usual, around 14mm- they give good vision and good comfort, usually along the lines of a soft lens.

In association with No.7 Contact Lens Laboratory I am holding a series of workshops around the country to teach other contact lens fitters how to fit them on their patients. These have been going really well so far, but I'm running out of new patients to fit them on! The next workshop is in Stevenage on 9th of April, then in Central London on 16th April. If there is anyone who would like to be 'guinea pig' and come and be fitted with the lenses in front of a room full of people for free (and you get a free pair of lenses if they work out OK), please let me know! (Either KC or post-graft patients). It would be in the evening at around 7pm.

I only need 1 or 2 patients for each session...

Many thanks!

Hi Sophie
I'm willing to be a guinea pig for the Central London location. I'm post graft and very happy with my current rgp corneals but the more options KC people have the better!

Anne- that's great! If you could give me a ring, we can arrange everything. I work at Nigel Burnett Hodd's practice, and the number is 0207 636 2444. It might be a good idea if you are able to pop in before 16th to take topographies, to save time on the night.

Andrew- I think we will actually be doing a Scotland workshop in the next few months, so I will let you know! Probably Edinburgh or Glasgow.

I now have enough people for the London workshop on 16th, but still need willing eyes for 9th in Stevenage (which is only a 20min train journey from Kings Cross).

Cheers!

I would be up for doing the london one.

I am post graft but am too early to have a lens in my grafted left eye.
My right eye however is healthily KC'd up to the max and i am currently wearing a scleral. this one i would be happy to be a subject for.

I'd be available for an evening or Saturday if you are up in Glasgow. Let me know. Elizabeth

I look forward to seeing the results of this.

Unfortunatly I am too far down the soft lens route and hope to try a new design of soft lens very soon.

May be if RGP lenses were allowed in motor sport I'd be interested.

Good luck to all who take part in the trial.
Gareth

Why would you wear RGPs (even if you could due to the regulations you have with your "sport"/cleaning cars) when you wear softs which are "the soft option" for KC - (are they really or just a bit, and for some few people, i think its the latter in what i said), the soft lenses are not good enough with vision and your secretly are longing to go back to better vision with RGPs.
