Sorry things aren't going too well.
I hope that your visit to the NHS manages to put things right!

CJ, I tried to leave a message on your blog but for some reason my computer slowed down so much that I had to close the page and post here. Its not your blog page which done that I don't think, it was taking ages thats all for the page to refresh and i as always am in a hurry.
Ayway, its good to know that no structure of the eye or cornea has any trouble. They take off the Epithelium all the time, day in day out, all over the world with laser surface treatment, so its not a major thing to worry about with that side of things, and a new Skin to grow back is not a major problem. However these "spots" are quite mysterious if i may say, but with any operation, things do get worse before they get better, for you its these "spots" - its just going to be something or another, there is always something that's going to hold you back in any early part of recovery which you are in, and yours is treatable fully as the Epithelium regenerates its self if removed with out any hassle most definitely.
Good luck, although I don't think you need any !
Pepe

Sounds like you're getting good care there, crakerjacker. And I do hope the anti-virals do the trick for you. Must be really frustrating to be getting these setbacks - but hang on in there!
All the best
Anne

Like Anne, I hope the new drugs routine sorts things out.
Dexamethasone is a steroid, and being on steroids reduces your resistance to virus infections.
As I found out the wrong way - got put onto the brown steroid asthma inhalers a few years ago and the first thing that happened was I went down with shingles. That's another virus ("varicella zoster") that gets into your system and lies dormant until something wakes it up again.
So what you are reporting makes sense..... cold sores come from a virus that lies dormant most of the time and then wakes up and makes itself felt from time to time.
SOunds like you're in good hands, anyway - I can't imagine sending any of my consultants a text and getting that sort of response back!
