Hi all,

Just wanted to let you guys and gals know that I was successfully grafted on Monday 2nd March with a Penetrating Keratoplasty. Op went for around one hour at Sydney Eye Hospital. I had two of the best surgeons in Australia performing the surgery and I am very pleased.

I was in hospital for three days for observation.

Sydney Eye Hospital was extremely excellent. Doctors and Nurses there were so fantastic, I thank them very very much.

Well I am back to my bed to relax my new cornea. I hope everyone facing this surgery has an experience as good as mine.

Sorry about the blur in the picture. This is the eye 4 days post op.

Oh, the vision at the moment is very blurry, but I expect that to clear. I have no pain.

Well done! That is an awesome photograph.

Give your brand new PK time to heal; you have good sight to which to look forward, and a healing trajectory that others have travelled before you.

It is good to know that you are well served in Sydney!

It is snowing just now in West Central Scotland. As you autumn arrives, our winter keeps on holding on!

All the best

Andrew

Well done! Pleased to hear all went well. Keep us posted on your recovery. My graft is on hold for the moment as 12months after intacs we finally saw an improvement to my vision.
All the best.

Great news.

How come you had 2 surgeons with you? I only had 1 and was home half an hour after the operation. Why did you need to stay in for 3 days? Also, what colour are your stitches? they look bright blue.

3 days in hospital, hope the food was sufficient + great pic.

Keep us updated with your progress and rest as much as you can, especially for the first week or two atleast.

Thanks guys :)

To answer the question about my hospital stay, I think my surgeons wanted to be sure I would be ok immediately post op. The reason for this is that when I had my Intacs put in I was in terrible pain for the first few days. It seems that my inner eyelid is extremely sensitive to any sensation, ouch.

And I suppose the reason I had two surgeons is that my original corneal surgeon who put in the Intac felt a bit sorry for me and wanted to make sure I had the best treatment, God bless him :)

And I think the stitches are a little blue, or maybe it is just a reflection from my baby blue iris :)
