Hello,
I came across this site whilst searching for something on a related subject. I had kerataconus (diagnosed at about 16) in both eyes. I needed the large hard contact lenses to correct the problem , but the condition gradualy worsened as the corneas shape became more distorted, which meant a refitting of the lenses on a frequent basis. The condition became too severe and surgery was necessary. The cornea was getting too mis-shapen for contact lens fitting.
I had my first corneal graft in December 1992, and the second in 1995. I have noticed on this site that rejection can still occur some years later, I must admit I have never been aware of that, and any rejection would occur in the early stages, and even then it's rare.
I still need contact lenses to correct the vision, there is still a slight distortion, but these are normal sized lenses and do not bother me, certainly after going through all the years with the large hard lenses. If any one wants to ask me about it, feel free, I noticed most of you are 'newbies' to the condition!
Steve
