Re: 3 week post consulation not gone too well
Tried to post a comment on the blog, but either I didn't work out what to do, or it doesn't work in Lynx.
I shouldn't worry about the vision - a year and 10 days post-graft I still can't read even the top letter without pinholes. Comes up quite sharp with a new lens though - and most of us end up wearing either glasses or lenses post graft.
I'm afraid I don't know anything about bandage lenses or uneven skin regrowth - but wish you lots of luck with them. DO keep us posted.

Sorry you have had this apparent set-back, but at least you are in regular contact with your ophthalmologist, and he is able to keep on top of things.

As far as i'm aware it takes months not weeks for any corneal intervention, so you are in the right side where time is concerned CJ. Let us know how things go for you, i'm sure it will all work out in the end, because for a high percentage it alwass does and there is a lot of medical experience around also.

' and removing the bandage lens' thats a new one! did'nt have that with my graft in Sept.
Did have bandage lens on my very first op when I was 19, but only had it for two nights!
Pin holes ruduces light into eye.....dont know why they use that because you can go round wearing pin hole glasses!
There will be many set backs along the way...........thats how it is!
and positive news too!

As I understand it they use the pinhole to assess the potential for recovered sight. By excluding all but a single source of sight they cut out the 'noise' and can estimate how good your sight may become when everything has settled down.

I'm 2 and a bit years post graft and still cant see any letters without pinholes (or a contact lens), so dont get too upset just yet, it takes time

With my right I I don't see any letters on the top row and that is neary 21 years post graft. The left eye 20 years post graft I only get down to the second or third line.
With RGP's I get 6/5 and with the K3 lens I am 6/7.5 but after a slight tweek I should be 6/6
Recovery is a long haul process that can take anyweher from 3 - 18 months before the corneal surface has settled enough for the vision to be corrected by either glasses or contact lenses.
I guess this is why we are reffered to as a patient.

Re: 3 week post consulation not gone too well
Its not the vision I am too bothered about as I know this is a long recovery time to get it right.
I am disappointed with the skin growing back uneven and rough so I cen't keep the bandage lens out as it is too irritable and rough. Even the consultant said I can't go without a bandage lens. If the skin had grown back smooth and even I wouldn't be disappointed.
