As you probably know I have recently had a cornea graph. I have been provided with a plastic shield that I stick to my eye using micropore. This is only for the first week. As I am a wriggler in bed I am wanting to wear a protective mask at all times during the night. Does anybody know where I would be able to get a mask that would protect my eye. i.e. a solid or stiff mask so my eye is protected during the night?
Thanks

Re: Mask to sleep in
Just go out and get another reel of micropore and keep using the same eye shield, crakerjacker.
That's what they tell most of us to do. As long as we feel it is wise to do so.
It's OK on its own without a dressing underneath (though I did once make a pad for underneath out of folder tissues, because one edge had been rubbing a bit).

I was hoping I could get something more comfortable. Not exactly nice sleeping with lots of micropore on your face. If that is the only option will do it but was hoping to be able to buy some sort of sleeping mask which would protect it and be comfortable.

Hi Johnny
I am still wearing eye shield at night as I lie on my left side. I am not that bothered by micropore and am quite used to wearing it now so you may find that as your eye becomes less uncomfortable the shield will become easier.
Hope all is going well and your eye is getting better

Yeah, agree there are more comfortable things inthe world!
Don't know about masks, sorry.
What's worse than the micropore in place is waking up in the middle of the nght with a nightmare and finding IT Isn't There! - happened to me and I didn't know if I'd torn it off during the nightmare, or what.... fortunately I found it, stuck by a screwed up piece of micropore to the duvet cover, so decided it must have got caught up and pulled off. Nasty moment!
No-one warned me in advance about micropore, so mine spent the first few nights stuck on with masking tape. I didn't tell the hospital....

I wore mine for the first 2.5 months. you get used to it and eyesight is more important than comfort

Don't get me wrong - I will wear the shield to protect the eye over comfort. Was just exploring if there was alternatives on the market that could buy. I have found a shop on the internet that stocks a sleeping mask that is solid and has eye holes that protect your eyes during sleep. Might get one but am going to see if my consultant knows of anywhere else that i can pick one up from.

Let us know what you find out. My own guess is that the masks on the www are the same as the ones you get in the hospital.

Re: Mask to sleep in
I have found this one on thw web http://www.hypnosishealthcare.com/sleep ... nmask.html
The image shows inlets cut out of the mask for your eyes so the mask doesn't touch the eyes and you can open and close your eyes freely. The one I have from the hospital is a clear plastic one that you micropore over your eye.

CJ,
Ask your medical team about these
http://www.eyeshieldtechnology.com/duoshades.htm
Post Lasik patients are given these by some centres just after their Op, no need for sticky tape !
