Postby chriser00 » Sun 04 Jan 2009 9:09 pm

Hi,

Do you know whether there is a need to avoid sport activity (physical effort) after CCL treatement. If yes how long after the treatement ?

Thank you for answer

Best regards

Once our epithelium - the surface "skin" cells of the cornea has come back to normal you should be ok, thats if you can see with the other eye to do the sport ! but some contact sports may involve injury to the eye and thats best avoided possibly if you have KC generally. Usually one eye is treated at a time.

Thank you

P.S. Contact sports - you mean sports in which somebody may hit me in eye ?

After my CXL I was ready for anything after one day as the discomfort was gone. The Epithelium grew back for me in two days, it can vary between people (but you should be checked out a day or so after surgery to know how this is going) and you may get what i had on and off for three months, which was light sensitivity and with that watery eyes. I did not want to be out doors too much due to that and to keep comfortable, but I could have I think engaged in sports be it contact sports (when there may be physical contact with others) or not. I would not have may be played the sport very well though.

The standard advice after any sort of eye surgery is to avoid any contact sport until after your first post-procedure appointment at the clinic. At that time, you should ask your clinician about returning to sport.

All the best

I have one more question.

When I was discovered keratoconus I was told that I need to stop sport activities (gym, martial arts) due to the fact that high blood pressure may cause keratoconus improves.

During lat 6 months I was made CCL in both eyes.

As I heard CCL always stops Keratoconus improvement.

Does it mean that after CCL I can do sport activities without the risk that Keratoconus improves ?
