Update: KC/eczema and now seen at Gartnavel

Postby BusyLizzy » Wed 17 Dec 2008 12:57 pm

Hello there,

Several months ago I posted about the extreme situation I was in regarding due to a combination of severe eczema and eye disease, with an inability to wear my lens for KC (and struggling with 6/24 vision in right eye as a teacher, translator and part-time student). I developed a severe, whole body eczema flare which has persisted since May and haven't been able to either insert or wear lenses during this time.

I was finally seen yesterday by my new ophthalmologst, Dr Ramaesh, recommended to me by Andrew.
I'd been seen by the dermatologist several weeks ago and immediately prescribed an immunosuppressant drug to calm to eczema and also hopefully help me wear my lens once more. Shortly afterwards, I had a homeopathic appointment and weighed up my options, before opting to try the homeopathic treatment instead of the immunosuppressant.
I've also followed the dermatologist's advice to give up milk, wheat and eggs and wash half as often!
Since doing so, I've had a drastic reducing in the severity of the eczema, so much so that when Dr Ramaesh examined my eyes, they're healthy enough to begin wearing my lens once more. He strikes me as a very knowledgeable, friendly and compassionate specialist and I'm thankful to Andrew for encouraging me to transfer!

I'm being followed-up in 3 months and seen in their contact lens clinic shortly.

I'm amazed at the effectiveness of the homeopathic treatment: having done a bit of an experiment, using it on one side of the body and the very potent topical steroid on the other side, it's as effective, with the bonus of not drying the skin as drastically as the steroid does.

I'd recommend to anyone else faced with the same combination of conditions that they seek out a medically trained homeopath to have treatment prescribed to suit them as an individual: it's not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Keep looking for rainbows.
