Are there any advantages of using hycosan over hypromellose?

I think that the substance we use is always going to be a question of personal preference. I like hypermelose; Gareth and others prefer Systane. Hycosan seems to be preservative free, and that may be an advantage.

It was actually my mum who was advised by an optometrist to use lubricant as in the evenings her eyes feel gritty and he said it was hormonal [?]
I questioned why he suggested Hycosan when it costs £20, whereas Hypromellose is so much cheaper. Ok so it's preservative free but I have 2 grafts and have used hypromellose for 24 years with no problems.

If the advice came to you second hand, I'd just continue to use what I know and like.

I was prescribed Celluvisc by the glaucoma specialist when I complained about my eye feeling like the Sahara from the anti-glaucoma drops.
I burst out laughing because I have lots of Celluvisc around from when I used to use it for piggybacking lenses pre-graft!
But apparently it comes in thicker and thinner versions, and this was to be the thinner one. So now I have oth types and have to try to tell them apart.
I'm not sure it makes much difference, actually - the best thing when I wake up in the night with the eye feeling like the Sahara and half my head dehydrated is to get up and have a few glasses of water to drink. The Celluvisc just makes it sticky inthe morning. The cold feeling can help if it feels hot, but have wondered if saline would be just as good.
ANother question for my next visit!

I've been diagnosed with KC in both eyes for around 2 years now. A couple of months ago I was prescribed Systane (I use RGPS in both eyes) when I complained a bit about eye dryness (although many times I manage around 8 hrs straight without using eye drops). At that time the optometrist just told me to make use of Systane. Now, today, I was reading that before using systane one should take his contact lenses off. Is this a must or could it be used while having your RGPs on because I have used it a couple of times with my lenses on (as already stated, I came to know about this thing only today)
