I was diagnosed with KC when I was 11 years old im now 27 and have worn rgp lenses since the, generally I never had any complaints, until recently. In february I developed acute hydrops in my right eye ( my bad eye), the condition was never fully explained to me. I went to the optitionwhen it first happened, was refered to hospital to see specialist, and 2 months down the line i am still waiting on the appointment, so until I came on to this forum i was in the dark about hydrops, I have been signed off my work for the past 8 weeks because of the sensetivity of my eye and because my vision is so poor but what depressed me most was , as a musician i was really struggling to read y music. luckly, the cloudyness has gone and my eye doesnt seem to be so sensitive.
It is really difficult to discuss this with family and friends because they understand my condition even less than myself, when I mentioned that I thought that my sight seemed to have improved in my eye, they reckoned that it was just that i hadnt been able to see out of it for a couple of months and i guessed they were right, i am now kind of excited after reading some of the other members stories about sight improvin after hydrops.
guess ill need to go back to the optitions now for a refit on my right eye because my lens isso steep that when i tried to put it in it wouldnt fit.if my sight has improve it kind of makes the pain worthwhile.
oh one quick question, could someone explain to me what scleral lenses are ?, id never heard of them and am wondering if i should ask my optition about them

Hi Kerry...
Just a quick hello as I am looking at this just as I am going out ot work..
Hydrops is when a layer in your cornea - Descemets membrane - ruptures. The inrush of ocular fluid causes swelling which is why your vision goes cloudy and it usually resolves itself in about 8 weeks, so yours is just about sorting itself out. However, it can lead to some scarring and the hospital wqill advise you more about what is going on when they see your cornea.
Others here will clue you in to sclerals - but because of the time and expense fitting them - you may well be better staying with what you have if RGP's work. You would be advised to talk this over with your optician!

Hello there!
Kerry
Sweet hello there! Nice to 'meet' you here. Im 28 and waiting for scleral lenses myself, so while i have a basic idea of what they are i havent really tried them yet but am sure that someone here will fill you in!!
Im really sorry about your vision, it just took me back a bit, as i had to give up playing cornet in a brass band as i couldnt read the music anymore. It was so dam annoying!!
I am sure you understand when i say that the lines disappear and then you dont know what note to play and usually end up with a note above or below. In the end after making the music larger i gave up, as i couldn't 'sit' on top of it, though that was the only way i could see it. It is sad and maybe with new lenses one day i will go back.
I notice that you are from Scotland, i am actually from Wales, though i now live and work in London. Hoping that things sre good with lenses there?
Take care

Hi claire
I play in a brass band too, luckily i can get my music really close tome because Im a bass player, find myself memorising alot of the music, though hard because its a championship section band. Would hate to give it up as its music is my life, I even studied it at uni, my eyes were better then though !!

Hey
Kerry
Hehe see playing a bass has it's uses but is way too big for me!!! Playing cornet is somewhat different because as you know we all share music for a start and it is a long way away! Though i did have to memorise loads of music though as well.
The bands i have been in have never made championship but we have made second which was lovely and of course the social life with concerts and competitions is one of the best! Maybe in time when i can see better i can go back.
Thanks for your reply, Claire X
