Hi,
I was reading on the internet a few days ago and read a report that said in most cases they found that KC would start in one eye 5 or so years before it progresses to the next eye?! Is this true? I only have KC in my left eye and cope reasonably ok (odd bad days) but really would not want to have it in both eyes. Did anyone on here have it in one eye before the other etc? Or was this report true? I found it on the BBC i think, gonna have a look see if I can find a link.
Thanks in advance!
Dan

Re: Does KC start in one eye?
Might be true of the cases studied.
Mine was diagnosed in both eyes together, worst in my right and not so bad in the left and progressed very rapidly. Since being involved in the support group there are no two cases alike.
Some have KC in one eye and have been like this for 20 yeasr or more in one case I know, we have identical twins who's KC has progressed distinctly differntly.
It is more common to have KC in both eyes, however no one can say that you will develop it in the other eye, you may well cope as you are now for the rest of your life.
My KC made a big step change 4 yeasr ago and has remained static ever since. We just take every day as it comes.

Mine has been in both eyes since I first heard about it, and as far as I've ever been able to tell, both have been roughly the same (except while in the course of a hydrops, but that's another story).
I used to work with someone who had it in one eye only and had done for years.

Re: Does KC start in one eye?
Like others, my KC was first diagnosed in both eyes, although I have heard of people who had it diagnosed in one eye first, only to find later that they have it in both eyes.
I guess that as they develop new technologies to identify KC it may well emerge that it is present in both eyes, but that it remains sub clinical in one eye long after it has become evident in the other.
