Hi everyone
sorry i had to re register i was previously on the site as wassupade.
just to inform you that i have now recovered from surgury after having intacs put into my left eye.
however i am a bit confused on my progress as i went to the optistions yesterday and was told my vision is worse than before the op. does anyone now if this is normal. i had my op on the 22.3.05 so it might be to early to panic yet but i was hoping to see a change.
anyway thanks for the help you give me this is a great site.

Hi Ade....What did the surgeon say about your vision?...have you been to any follow ups at all?
And was it Intacs or Ferrara Rings that you had?
I know that it takes time for your cornea to stablise...however may be they need to be re-planted/re-postioned....and did you get tops done before and after at all?
As with many things it may be just a matter of time!
Please let us know how you get on!

Hi Sageev
Thanks for your post.
i had InTacs placed in my right eye on the 22.3.05.
i have seen the surgan on 4 occassions since the op and over the past couple of visits they have been testing my vision. my right eye has not improved and seems to have got worse it was -11 now it is -14.
i will be seeing my surgan again on the 25th of March who will be deciding whether or not to put me forward for a graft.
im glad they tried the intacs in away but will be disapointed if they do not work. i love playing football and this has stoped me enjoying what i like to do its difficult at the moment with al the ifs and buts sorry to seem negative but the last ten years have been difficult.

Hi
When you say the vision is worse, do you mean Corrected or Uncorrected vision?
Bear in mind Intacs are primarily used for reshaping the cornea for better lens wear and fitting.....thus allowing for better vision (IN THEORY) via corrected vision.
Its not unusual for Intac patients to have to wait upto 6 months for vision stabilisation
Hope that helps

Hi Abe..
You know I'm conserned about this...Was this done privately...It may be that the surgeon is not experianced enough...
I know Ferrara Rings work better than Intacs for KC...
May be that is an option!...at least these surgeries are reversable!
On another note...
I saw something on "city hospital" on the bbc...did anyone see it?...it was about a new type of laser used on transplanted eyes...I just could not find the info. about it on the web to post it!!
Best of Luck to you Ade...please keep us posted...

My vISION IS WORSE SINCE IT HAS BEEN CORRECTED BY THE HOSPITAL.
THE SURGARY WAS DONE THROUGH THE NHS.
ARE PEOPLE SAYING INTACS WILL NOT CORRECT MY VISION ON THERE OWN WHAT LSE WOULD BE NEEDED.
IVE HEARED ABOUT FERRERA RINGS WERE CAN YOU GET THEM

Hello Adrian...
What advice is Bedford Hospital giving you...when are you seeing them next?
May be the high-street option has not got the experiance to deal with intacs...I think stick to your hospital and talk to them about what steps need to be taken...

I think you want to go back to the Hospital and see what they say.
Intacts and Ferrera rings objective are not primarily to get you better vision aided or unaided. They are to change the shape of the Cornea thus allowing for a better lens fit and thus keeping you away from theoperating level.
I would def consult the Opthamologist that did this procedure for you and try and understand what options you have, how ,how much longer you need to wait.
But all is not lost, you can have them removed very easily.
