Aaarrgh!

Postby alice44 » Tue 06 May 2008 3:07 pm

I was wondering if anyone could help. I'm having a really bad stint of dry itchy eye syndrome. I thought it was maybe due to overwearing the new lenses, but after spending the day outside I've realised it's the dreaded hayfever. Has anyone any suggestions to relieve it? I tried eye drops (normal ones) but they only really relieved it for about 30 seconds!

Thanks

Go to your pharmacist and explain what is going on; the pharmacist will suggest anything that is available over the counter that might help. If that fails go to your GP and explain the story again; the GP will be able to prescribe other stuff, but take advice on whether you can use it and then put in your lens.

All the best

I have only one thing to say ... OIL SEED RAPE!

OK that feels better now! Living in Norfolk.. there are acres of the stuff - all nice and yellow and all that - but HORRIBLE if you are allergic to it. The scent alone... well words fail me! My eyes start to run just thinking about it...Anyway, what you may need to combat the allergies is an oral anti-histamine like Claritin or Benadryl. If you are not too bad, you may just need one every other day or every third day during high pollen counts. Although you can use drops, I personally find the oral antihistamines very effective for eye symptoms.

As Andrew says, check with your pharmacist to make sure you are OK with these.

Lynn

It is not only Norfolk! During our General Assembly I travel each day between Glasgow and Edinburgh on a train. The train travels through a corridor of about 40 miles with Oilseed Rape fields in full blossom. By the time the train arrives I am severely distressed; then I sit in a hall that is in a pocket sized city surrounded on three sides by the self same plant.

Of for rain in the month of May. (sorry to seem a bit 'dog in the manger', I hope that Mayor Boris won't have me 'euthanased') :?

i know how you feel this last week has been a nightmare

i take antihistamins, i use optanol eye drops, and flexonase nasel spray but i still suffer on bad days

i think a cold flannel over your eyes for ten minutes feels great if you can
