Hello All

I had my graft on 25/04/08 @ 10amthe op lasted r 2 hours on my left eye and everthing seems to have gone ok...the surgeon had asked me before the op if I would like him to try a partial graft as he was wooried that a full graft would be a a very large area and would add to the possability of rejection I told him to to do what ever he thought best.The bulge om my eye is to the lower left and that is why he said maybe a partial graft might be best @ this time.

I went back to see the consultant the next day and he seemed happy with the results unlike my wife when he showed it to her . My eye was very sore and tender for 1st 2 days now getting a bit better.The worst part is I sleep on my left side which I now cant .I have taken the last of my Diamox and just on drops now I'am due to see him again on Tuesday .

At the moment I can only make out very blurred shapes but I have not bee opening my eye much due to been light sensitive which I always have been in both eyes.

Is there any questions I should be asking when I return to clinic on Tuesday ? Any help is most welcome

P.S. I ve uploaded a picture bit blurred as I took it myself ...Will get wife to take a better one if she can stomach it

Don't worry too much about your sight at this stage, it is going to take a bit of time for that to settle down. Once all the swelling has subsided your ophthalmologist will have an idea of the way in which the sutures are holding your graft, and in time there will be an opportunity to 'adjust' the position of the graft.

Do you know if they used a running suture or separate ones? I had 16 separate sutures each time, but I know of others whose surgeons used a running suture.

Perhaps ask your specialist for an eye-guard. The one I have is clear plastic, shaped a bit like a kidney and has some holes in it. it sits perfectly on the bones around my eye, and I fix it with tape. with the guard on I can sleep with my face in the pillow even, and it doesn't budge- it does leave a nice ring across my cheek, but at least I manage to sleep with no hassle. I am 12 week post-graft and still use it, although i am probably a bit too cautious.

re- melissa I use the the plastic guard @ night but i to tend to bury my head in the pillow with another pillow over my head Iam a very light sleeper ..hehe

re- Adrew I forgot to ask about the sutures I had

After seeing the consultant today he has taped up my eye with soft pads v. He wants pressure on the graft to help it bond .Told me that 75% has started to bond but the part where my cornea was very thin is still loose.I'am due back in 48 hrs for him to check and if its not improved he wants to inject a small gas bubble on friday and for me to go horizontal for 48hrs

I'll have to stick the tv on the ceiling if this happens

The "gas bubble" thing is quite a good idea; it equalizes the pressure over an area, and I think that they also use it to help people with detached retinas to heal.

I am sorry that you are having such a torrid time. All the best with your next visit. I think that there is probably no problem about arranging a television that you can see while looking straight up, but there are other things that I'd rather not have to learn to do while lying in that position ... drinking tea, eating steak pie, doing the crossword, ... ... oh the list goes on and on and on and ... ... ... ...

Yes, you CAN drink tea while lying flat on your back.
YOu just need to stock up on bendy straws.
Have to admit, I wouldn't care to try it with guinness.

Ive been given the friday 9/05 for bubble to be injected.The graft has still not taken .I was given a scan and shown where the graft had no knitted to my eye. If the bubble doesnt work hemay try glue and if this doesnt work the Its a full graft He said

My eye has settled down no pain.Bit A nightmare sneezing tho.Vision still very blurred but expected due to graft not bonded fully

I do seem to have a lot of sticky discharge tho is this normal ? ..its slightly opaque

I have a question .. I have noticed over the day today that my vision has started to get a yellow tinge to my vision..everything is still very blurred but now a slight yellowing when i look with my grafted eye only.

My wife has noticed that my eye looks slightly bloodshot again as it had pretty much cleared up

Is this normal ??
