Hi
Can anyone advise me on what i can do or use to help my sore eyes. I have recently had a change in contact lenses as the last lot were so tight. as i got these new ones he said they are quite loose but the best he can do. I am struggling with the soreness, it is there all the time and gets worse and i couldnt sleep the other day and couldnt close my eye as it was very painful.
He has said there is nothing more fit wise he can do. He put extra material in these to get more oxygen in. I have tried eye drops etc and havent been able to get on with systane.
Any advice?

Re: New lens problems
Hi Michelle
I have struggled with RGP'S for a year and im in the same situation. At the start of the week i went to London to see a contact lens specialist for people with KC. I tried the latest Kerasoft lenses but they were no good, so they tried me with mini sclerals and i honestly struggled to feel them in my eyes, it eliminates the rubbing on the lids. Have you tried different types of lenses??
Pete

Re: New lens problems
Have you tried any other eye drops? I use Acular which is an anti-inflammatory. It makes wearing my lenses bearable. I also find that using allergy drops (Patanol) also helps keep things in check.
When my eyes hurt like that, it usually means I had my lenses in too long. Since I only have discomfort in one eye, I remove that lens after 8 hours wear time. I find that sometimes just going without a lens in that eye for a day will get things back to normal.
Something very simply I tried which helped tremendously was upping the amount of water I drink daily. I avoid dehydration and it really pays in the eye department. I don't know why, but if I need water, I feel it in my eyes first.

Re: New lens problems
perhaps ask about trying piggy-backs (hard lens over a disposable soft lens). they helped me with comfort
I also believe that Flaxseed oil capsules have helped with dryness in the eye- but can't prove it really. Its also good for hair and nails

Michael
How long are you wearing your lenses each day? Have you tried building up your tollerance by starting low and increasing your wear time by a half hour a day?
Andrew
ps I use hypermelose artificial tears.
