RGP comes off centre after about 40 minutes

Postby asylumxl » Sun 23 Mar 2008 8:02 pm

Hey everyone.

I recently got a new RGP for my right eye. My previous one didn't seem to stay centred. The thing is, the new one moves too, but not for a long while. I'm seeing my optometrist soon, but I'm wondering if it could be caused by something I'm doing.

Hi asylumxl

You did not mention how long you have had the RGP, but most of the time it moves of centre due to the fit and you may have to go through several different fittings before you get one that right for you.
Your optometrist will be able to advise further, and hopefully your wait wont be to long

Do let us know how you get on at the optometrist.

I had to do something today so I moved my appointment. About 11am today i felt a pain in my eye, when I got home i checked my eye and saw the foggy/milky patch, and assumed I got my first hydrops and well I did :( . Went to A&E (my optometrist was closed) and they gave me good old chloromphenical.

Not looking foward to it, I know the ointment is gonna sting very badly!

I am sorry to hear that you have developed your first Hydrops.

All the best with the recovery. Do not expect things to get back to normal very fast. It will take the time that it takes, but if you notice any deterioration in your condition go back to the clinic where they diagnosed hydrops.

I don't know if anyones interested. But they told me today I will probably need a transplant, as the hydrops will leave a scar in my field of view..

Of course we are interested! How do you feel about the prospect of surgery?

I was expecting it sooner or later, just guess I got caught by suprise. When i first got diagnosed i was told i'd need surgery sooner or later but they decided to try contacts first.

Hi Asylumxl,
Just to add that 'probably' doesn't mean 'inevitably'. We have several members who have had hydrops episodes and haven't gone on to have a transplant. And although it may seem hard to believe when you've just had one, 1 in 5 of hydrops episodes actually result in an improvement in vision. So don't worry too much about possible surgery just yet - and I hope the hydrops doesn't take too long to clear. And if you do end up needing a graft, I'm sure you'll find plenty of support here!
All the best
Anne
