Update: Nearly made it to 2 years without rejection

Postby Paul Osborne » Wed 12 Mar 2008 12:18 am

Twenty one more days and I would have hit two years with minimal issues.

Sadly the eye went rather red 14 days ago, stings like mad and once again I live under the cover of darkness. Managed to get in to the eye casualty unit the same day and then on to the consultant three days later. It turns out I have the pleasure of catching the rejection attempt early - outer layer showing inflammation and drying out. So in the meantime pred forte every 2 hours, with celluvisc whenever its uncomfortable. Thankfully I have maxitrol to bung in at night after having three days and nights of pred forte on the hour every hour (as issued by the eye casualty unit).

Interestingly the consultant was short on the quantities on the prescription so I had to see my GP who immediately threw a wobbler and told me to stay off work until I see the consultant again (next week).

Regards to all.

Paul

Paul

I am sorry that you ran into this difficulty. I sincerely hope that the regime of eye-drops manages to turn things round for you.

All the best.

Enjoy your enforced leisure.

Hi Paul
Good to see you again, though sorry about the problem that gave rise to your post! But having caught the rejection early, hopefully all will be well by the time you see your consultant again next week.
All the best
Anne

Hi Paul, you're here to, that's so great, I'm thrilled to find someone I know, personally rather than only in that wonderful realm of cyber space !! no disrespect to anyone else though I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for you all.

Sorry to hear about the rejection, sounds like you are having bit of a rough time, when is your apt with the consultant, best of luck and great that you have caught it early. I'm doing ok touch wood, eyes keep getting very dry and irritated but think it may be the stitches. Have managed to stay away from the eye unit for a whole 5 weeks, horray...!

Its so fantastic that you almost made it to two years without rejection and that you have caught it soo early.Remember what a encouragement, support and inspiration you are to others (I am qualified to say that) Chin up as you would and have said to me, thinking of you, prayers. Stay in touch.

Two years? Well, I hoped and thought that i have high probability to go without rejection to the end of my life....? :(
I know that corneal transplantation is successful about 95 % of cases but does this not include rejection episodes post operation?

Rejection and rejection attempts are two different things. I have the symptoms of the early stages of an attempt to reject, the consultant seems happy that we can sort this out via a course of eye drops.

I am suprised that I have gone two years without any major issues to be honest and I am do not think that this counts as major since I only have to take eye drops on a very regular basis.

George (my secondhand cornea) is still in place and I will not be letting him go anywhere as I am starting to get to like him.

Hi Paul, It's been a while. :D

Sorry to hear about your current rejection episode, oddly enough I'm going through the same thing. I'm also on Pred Forte and Maxitrol ointment at night. I had a splendid first year with little trouble, only to recently be hit with a niggling rejection that has a habit of easing off but not clearing.

First thing this morning I'm off to The William Harvey A&E as it's getting worse and the eye drops are having little effect.

Hi Becky, nice to meet another local on the forum. :D Are you under the care of Dr De-Cock too?

Chris!

You have been done then, excellent news.

Can I take it that your dicky ticker is no longer dicky?

My Ticker is good thanks and the operation went well. Have to return for yearly tests and just keep an eye on it but it's been good. :D

I had the heart op last year, followed by my graft 2 months later. So they'll slowly rebuilding me. :D

By the way what eye casualty unit do you go to?

I've gone to A&E at the William Harvey on three different occassions with differing effect. I wondered if there is an easier process to being seen by a specialist on emergency or whether this is the only course of action?

It was great to hear from you, although a real shame to hear you've got an early rejection. I take it you're now stitch free?

Chris,

sounds like things are going well for you.

As for Ashford when I used A&E a while back they sent me straight up to the Rotary Suite after taking several hours to decide to do so. So now when there are issues I just phone the Rotary Suite directly from wherever I am and they make an appointment for me that day.

There are still eight stitches in place holding things together.

Paul
