KC and Cataracts

Dear All,

Its been some time since I visited this site - I guess for some people its a regular thing while for others we turn to it for advise and support in times of need.

So, during a routine quarterly check up at the Eye Hospital, after being told that the vision in my left eye was suffering, the nice Doctor chappie announced "You have cataracts!"

Of course, after the visit all of the questions come flooding in.

Can anyone advise if the removal of the cataracts will be complicated by the presence of KC?
Are there any connections between the two conditions?
Is there any particular post cataract removal surgery aftercare that has to be considered?

Can anyone give me any guidance or advise?

Thanks

Chris.

Having Keratoconus does not make us immune to cataracts. I have them (or one, the other having been sorted).

Actually cataract surgery is a breeze; AND you get to hold hands with a demure nurse while the surgeon fiddles with your eye.

I'm having the left eye cataract removed on Friday, and the right eye cataract removed the following Friday.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of how much time should be allowed to elapse before I can get measurements taken for new Rose K lenses?

Thanks

Chris

I thnk you have to be guided by your ophthalmologist on that one.

I saw an immediate improvement after my cataract surgery, but the wound did have to heal and during that process my vision was changing, so an early refraction would not have given a long-term reading.

All the best
