1 year post graft blurred vision

Postby pauly t » Sat 09 Feb 2008 4:39 pm

had a cornea graft a year ago and things were great until 2 weeks ago. eye went very red and vision deteriorated so went to specialist and he said was some rejection at the bottom of the graft so have been taking the steroid drops every other hour which has cleared up the redness but the vision is still a lot worse than it was before the rejection episode, was just wondering if this is the norm when frequently using steroid drops. was previously down to one drop a day.

pauly

Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry that you are having trouble, I know how frustrating it can be when things that were going well suddenly start going badly. It is likely that you will soon be able to start to drop the number of steroids. Your ophthalmologist will judge when the moment had come.

Rejection episodes are not uncommon and they do not lead inevitably to the complete rejection of the transplanted tissue. Steroid drops, and sometimes an antibiotic, seem to be very common responses to such episodes. In some people, steroids themselves can lead to a temporary blurring of the vision (my sight is blurry for about an hour after using dexamethasone).

If you are worried, why not go back to see your ophthalmologist? When is your next appointment.

All the best

Andrew

Sounds like you caught the rejection early which is very good news as in most cases rejection is reversed with no further ill effects. Since becoming part of this group I've spoken to many who have been in a similar situation and gone on never to have another rejection episode.

Hope yours if fully rectified soon and is the only rejection episode you experience.
Gareth

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR POOR LUCK IF ITS ANY HELP I HAVE BEEN THROUGH REJECTIONS MANY TIMES AND ITS THE WORST FEELING YOU CAN GET.

ITS NORMAL TO HAVE TO DO DROPS EVERY OTHER HOUR FROMM HE SOUNDS OF IT YOU CAUGHT THE REJECTION EARLY AND THE EARLIER THE BETTER.

REJECTIONS CAN TAKE TIME TO HEAL AND CAN BE SOULD DESTROYING FOR THE PERSON SUFFERING FROM IT BUT YO SHOULD REMEMBER IFAT ANYTIME YOU FEEL SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT GOALONG TO CASUALTY AND GET IT CHECKED BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.

THE DROPS WILL GET REDUCED AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT BACK DOWN TO THE ONCE A DAY

I HOPE IT GETS BETTER FOR YOU

THINKING OF YOU SEND ME A MESSAGE OR EMAIL ANYTIME IF I CAN HELP

ALL THE BEST

JAMES
anyways all you KC people get out there and try things you are scared to do it will amaze you the impact it has on your self esteem and confidence.

I went to the optometrist yesterday (7 months since my last appointment) because I noticed I was getting a few headaches. Put it down to eye strain. Felt maybe I was not seeing quite as well, but not sure. I must admit I have been known to be a bit paranoid about my sight at times. So I went in fully expecting a bit of eye strain and maybe a minor change to my glasses. My right cornea is actually having a rejection episode. Hourly eyedrops, while awake, untile next Tuesday when I am to see my specialist. My cornea has a haze on it. I have had this cornea for 13 years. I would like a little (lot) longer. Fingers crossed.

I had no real pian, no redness, and did not notice myself being more sensitive to light. So you could say I was shocked.

Prue

Thank goodness you did not just shrug it off. Your rejection episode was identified and checked. Well done, and an object lesson for us all.
