at my wits end

Postby DJ Smak » Sat 05 Jan 2008 2:31 am

Hey everyone, been a while since I posted but I figured i'd come on and let everyone know how I'm doing. Not so good. Doctor suggested that i get a surgery done because my rgp sclerals are useless now. He suggested i see a specialist who came to the conclusion that i get an implantable contact lens, in both eyes. Since they can't get any correction on the outside of the cornea due to it bothering my eyes, he figured this was the best route. No prob, only it costs $7000 for both eyes, yikes!! I applied for financing but got turned down coz of poor credit. So basically, unless i can come up with at least half of that to get one eye done for now, I'm screwed, government health care wont pay for it.

So last month i got new glasses( i guess I was lucky to get along so so with glasses all these years) but now my vision is currently in the process of changing again so my glasses are starting to be of not so good use. So now, here i am, trying to find a decent lens again, checked out the rose k site, say they have had success in people with PMD. Found a place in my province that makes specialty lenses so i may travel there to see what can be done. Or, waiting to hear from my doctor after thinking maybe i could get away by wearing both soft lenses and glasses at the same time, if its even possible.

So not a good start to a new year, terribly depressed. Just turned 30 in October hoping that hitting my 30's would mean a slowing down or stopping of the progression but alas it isn't so. They wont do cornea grafts here unless your
corneas are scarred etc, which mine aren't, i just have rugby balls for corneas and my astigmatism sucks.

Anyhow, i still am interested in the implantable lenses, so hopefully this spring will bring me some money and i can at least get one done. Anyone have any opinions on the ICL's? What about hybrid lenses, they are supposadly better for oxygen permeability nowadays.

i read about kersoft lenses recently, maybe search for them on the net? they might be comfortable for you as they are soft lenses.

good luck,

I am so sorry that you are having all these difficulties. In the UK we are well used to running down our own health care system, but at least we can always have confidence that necessary and approved treatments will be available to us without additional cost.

All the best in your search for a solution. You are in our thoughts.

Yours aye

Andrew

If you definitely have PMD, then I suggest you contact Blanchard Laboratoires in Sherbrooke, Quebec. http://www.blanchardlab.com
They manufacture the Rose K2 IC lens particularly for PMD. Trust me it is a good lens. We make it in the UK and have solved many patient's problems.
