Post graft problems ....

Postby Lisa Nixon » Thu 24 Feb 2005 10:51 pm

Had graft June 2002, sight worse, stitches out June 2003, sight better, prescribed glasses June 2004 sight great but deteriorated a lot since - needed stronger glasses August 2004 and think I do again now, also grafted eyelid droops when tired and eye gets v sore. Any one else experienced any of this? As none grafted eye is deteriorating fast I am worried about being dependent on grafted eye if I have the other eye done. I know my sight is getting worse as I teach riding for the disabled and I'm finding it harder to see the children's hand positions and facial expressions. As I've not been able to work for 3 years or so I don't want to have to give up RDA as well :0(

Hello Lisa,

My graft was in January 2002, and my prescription was constantly changing - getting new lenses for my glasses was happening about every three months.

I've now got myself a scleral lens for my grafted eye, and it's already wonderful! I can see the 6/6 line on the chart, and can make out bits of the line below!

Of course, I may not be able to wear the scleral full time (currently up to 4-5 hours or so per day max), but it does give me very useful vision indeed for those times when I really need it - like when I need to drive.

Would it be worth asking your optician if it was worth considering a scleral lens?

All the best,
John
