If you are talking about a "sparklies" effect which is in the shape of the implants surrounding light sources in dark/dimly lit situations, then I wouldn't worry about it too much as I still have these and got used to it after a few weeks. It is not as bad now as it was in the first few weeks post op.

Hi all,

Thanks Matthew, Andrew, Donna :) At least I still have a working left eye so I can take pictures :) I have thought about calling/visiting the hospital but my vision isn't much different to last week when I had a full refractive test. There was some ooh and arr'ing then but I think the general opinion was that it was too soon after the op to make any final decisions.

Karl, yep, I know the sparkles effect you are talking about - kind of reminds me of the effect I had when I used to wear smallish RGP's but its more of a sparkle as you say rather than a ring of light.

No, this is more a double vision/smear kind of thing.

With thanks to nkcf.org its kind of like this...

I didn'r get that after my op. It may well be worth having a chat with the hospital about this

Hi Ed
Can't help re Intacs aspects - but the parking sign effect is exactly what I suffer from all the time. So we have something in common - as well as the same colour eyes!!!

And you've got other some fab photos on that site - couldn't resist a little browse through whilst on my lunch break!

Hope you get things sorted soonest.

Ed

Thanks for this post - it gas been very useful. I too have recently had intacs placed into my right eye, however, mine were done on 12th November, so I am a couple of weeks behind you in the recovery process.

Strangely there seems to have been some difference in the actual operationg process, my op was done on an outpatient basis (I was allowed to eat and drink and was even given a cup of tea and biscuits when I got to the clinic. My op was also performed under local anaesthetic, and hurt quite a lot at the time, but even more during the evening afterwards...

I have been experiencing a number of the effects that you have detailed in your diary, I am getting the multiple image (parking sign) thing, and if anything this currently seems to be worse than it was before the operation. I am also experiencing the glimmering circle of light effect - I have noticed this particularly when I am being driven in a car at night and have a strong source of light directed away from me (although I have no idea why this should be).

Anyway, best of success with your intacs. I will keep checking back here for updates on what I should be expecting next...

loki

Edit : Oooh, forgot to mention - I am also experiencing increased light sensitivity, particularly first thing in the morning and late in the evening - again not sure why this should be...

Ed,

I am so pleased your eye is healing nicely - nice pic by the way! I can sympathise with what you are experiencing as I too have the double vision/smeary thing going on 7 weeks post op. It seems to be worse later in the day and in low lights (in broad daylight it doesn't seem so bad). As a result I haven't really had much success with glasses fittings, but my consultant seems to think this is ok at this stage and things should improve 3-6 months after the op. When you say smeary do you mean when you look at the the eye chart it's like looking through a haze so you can really focus in on the letters? If that's the case you are not alone!! :)

Hi all,

Firstly a big apology for not writing more sooner - I have been browsing the group but this is the first time I've had the time or been upto posting a new post.

Ok, so last time I posted was about 12 days after the operation and now its 40 days post op. To be honest I was feeling a bit down because I wasnt getting the results I wanted fast enough. I'd seen and heard how Karl and others had responded to the treatment and was thinking 'why not me?!'

A few days after that post I found the hospital and asked if I could have an earlier appointment. I was told unlikely but the secretary said she would talk to my specialist and give me a call back. A few hours later he called me back himself and asked me how I was doing and said 'thats perfectly normal' - because everyone's KC is different naturally we all heal differently too. After a resonably long discussion where he said the numbers stated my vision HAD improved even thoiugh I couldn't see it, I dont think I was 100% convinced but my mind was put to rest and I tried from that point to put my vision to the back of my mind. The thing I remember most is that he said I may not get a final result until my suture is removed (6 months post op).

You find yourself comparing the vision between your eyes a lot and wondering if the vision is improving. I now have a number of things I look at daily to compare to the previous day week, such as the alloy wheels on a car down the road (which the light scatters on like crazy), the white double glazed windows across the road (blurryness around the frames) and the writing on our shower curtain (can I read what it says this morning?!)

Nothing much was happening and that at the beginning of the month I started to see some improvement. Not much, but improvement first thing in the morning. There seems to be less scattering of light and I can sometimes read what is on my monitor screen.

I'm now also off the antibiotics and just on the wetting drops as and when I need them. My eye feels slightly sticky in the morning and as if I can feel the stitch during the day - I also notice that when I feel dryness around the contact lens in my left eye, i'm more concious of the intacs in my right. Strange but true.

Anyway, just a quick update and again sorry for the silence. I'm back with the optom for a new refraction test, topography and once-over next week so will update then.

Hope you're all ok and if not, have a hug :)

Ed.

PS. Special thanks to Loki (and everyone who has contributed really) - hearing somebody with the same symptoms as me was really useful and made me a lot happier. Also OUCH at local anesthetic!!

Great to hear that you are starting to notice an improvement in your vision Eddie. I have always said that the results for me and the time taken may not be the same for another person, it is akin to some peeps having to learn to walk before they can run and others who hit the ground running.

You will also feel much better when the stitch is removed, not a nice sensation being able to constantly feel the stitch.

Hi,

Yeyyy, some good news for Christmas.

Following on from my appointment on Monday.. I had a successful refraction test and I can now get 6/7.5 in my right eye with glasses. The optom said I now have a 'usual' prescription and not one that she'd expect/gain for a person with KC. This is a vast improvement from my refraction test a week after the op where I could only get focus through a pinhole.

I've been told my vision should continue to improve and my prescription will continue to change between now and April when I will have the suture removed. However, I have a temp prescription which I will take to Tescos to get my £20 pair of glasses - no joke, the hospital suggested it. You can get a pair of specs complete with lenses to your prescription for £20.

Anyway, thought I'd pass this on and put another slant on the intacs story. As I and Karl have shown recovery from the op differs completely by person but the op, on the whole, seems to be a success.

Hope everyone is looking forward to next week, isnt too stressed, well and seeing even better.

Oh Eddie,

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I am so pleased that your vision is improving - this is excellent news and the bit that cheered me up.

I have just the most rubbish eyes ever! (I know that's not quite true, but it feels like it)

Almost 3 months post op and still as blindo as ever!

xx
