Tim,
It would be good if the lenses are avaialable to the US too. For me it has been great being involved with Lynn and Ultravision partaking in the lens development. For me they have similar performance to the RGP's but with imense comfort I never got with the original Kerasoft.
As Lynn mentioned in her earlier post several hospitals here are interested in running trials which in itself will go towards validating the lens, so who knows, meeting FDA criteria may be made easier.
I know in the area I work in, it is easier to get medical devices through the FDA than a medicine.
Unfortunatly it is a case of watch this space.

Thanks Sweet!!

I think actually what was meant earlier in the thread about SiH lenses was the new CIBA Air Optix Individual lens. That will be available in the US as well as here but at the moment it does not correct astigmatism, nor is it available in a KC design yet - although I understand it is CIBA's intention to do so at some point.
Its an interesting fact that design of lenses tends to be dependent on technologies. We now have topography and aberrometry which gives us much better information about the eye and how it sees. The lathes that cut the lenses can now be driven by sophisticated computer programs and a lot of effort is being put into new contact lens materials. In the recent past, technology has been driven by the disposable market but now, attention is being turned to a more customised lens. So I think this is a time where new developments may come through in many countries at the same time. All of which is good news for keratoconics! With the advent of new treatments such as C3R as well, its a time of great change! As Gareth says - its a case of watch this space!

Hi Lynn
Good Luck in your new position and Many Thanks for your commitment to the cause!
I am getting along OK with RPGs 1 year post transplant, but would be interested in trialing new lenses if a was a suitable candidate.

Thank you for posting all of this information, Lynn
I was just wondering how one would go about trialing the new lenses? My optometrist at the hospital was aware of them being made, but said she was waiting for them to be approved. I have an appointment for 6 months time, but she said she would see me earlier if they were available.

The lenses are being trialled in several hospitals at the moment. Which hospital do you attend?

Somebody complimented me on my driving yesterday - they left a note on my windscreen "Parking Fine" which was nice.
KC managed with softperm lens in left eye, Intacs (2/11/07) in right eye

I would be intersted in taking part in any trial but am not sure what it would entail and how it would work. i am currently been seen via Swansea Hospital whose consultant also runs a private practice. I believe he specialises in KC. i have another appointment with him in the New Year.
I also suspect my optician (who also happens to be my girlfriend) would be prepared to look into this and assist me in any trials process because i am always winging to her to try to find me something better!!
I currently live in RGP's and have done for 7/8 years. i have tried Kerasofts but could not get vision that was good enough to live with. I cope pretty well with RGP''s but as my conditions is described as moderate to severe and i am looking at a PC screen all day, i am always looking for better options. It may also be far more suitable for sport which is a big part of my life.
How would the mechanics of this work and what would it entail? is this something better discussed outside the forum or would it be suitable for general posting?
Many thanks
