Are you are going to Moorfields today or tomorrow?

Postby Michael P » Tue 09 Oct 2007 11:45 am

I have just been to MEH this morning and had the pleasure of seeing our beloved leader Anne running a KC information desk in the entrance hall, for the benefit of 5000 or so KC sufferers who attend the hospital, none of whom appeared to be anywhere in sight!

So if anybody is going to MEH today or tomorrow ( or if you work nearby), please go and say hello to Anne because she will be delighted to see you. You may need a jacket because she is in a rather drafty spot, bless her.

I think her hours are 10.00 to 16.00.
Please have a listen to my daughter, if you have a spare moment, on www.myspace.com/emmaparnes. She also wrote the songs.

It was good to see you Michael! And once John had come with the KC Group banner which we fixed to the front of the table, I was much more visible. So more people stopped to say hello, take some of our literature, and even to join the Group! And yes, I will be there tomorrow - aiming to get there for 9am to catch the rush. Not sure I'll be in the same draughty spot (I'm told there's going to be an art exhibition tomorrow as well as our stall!) but do come along and say hello if you're in Moorfields tomorrow.

That's a great initiative! Anne, did you suggest to MEH that you would stff the stall, or did the approach come from them?

I reckon this could work in Glasgow, too.

It is a display of different corneal topographies which can look artisitic

Reminds me, I still need to post mine with the different lenses in.

Andrew - Moorfields have had an 'Open Day' for the last couple of years, and when I went along last year, I found all sorts of other eye charities had a stall. So I asked if we could man a stand this year. It was meant to be this Saturday, but in the end, they cancelled it. But the organiser suggested I could have an information stand during the week instead. Unfortunately, there wasn't room in the waiting area for the contact lens clinic - instead, I was at the front door in a draught! And so some people probably walked straight past me (Michael would have, but I called out to him!) But quite a few people did stop and chat, and we signed up some new members. And lots of people asked what keratoconus was! So it was worth doing, I think.

PS - yes it WAS an art exhibition! That was the League of Friends selling pictures to raise funds for the hospital, which they do every year apparently.

Thanks Anne, will do! This Group is all about helping each other, and there are lots of people on this forum (including you!) who give back in spades. I'd like to get to the point where no one ever tells me 'I've had KC for 5,10, 20 years and it's the first time I've talked to anyone with KC' because they find us straightaway. But I guess it will take a bit longer to get there!
