Conjunctivitus

Postby Anne B » Fri 28 Sep 2007 12:18 pm

I have spent 2 mornings at eye casualty this week. I went on Wednesday because my eye was really red and swollen (not my grafted one) and i was told that i had ulcers in the corner of my eye was given some steriod cream and antibiotic drops to use. But by yesterday night my eye was almost shut and i had glands popping up around my ear and neck and felt really run down. Still managed to run my little boys birthday party while hubby drank beer and told me what a good job i was doing
Went back to casualty today a was told that i have viral conjunctivtus i have been given antibiotic drops to use every 2 hours today and then every 4 hours for the rest of the week.
Has anyone else had this where their glands swell up because i feel so rough?
I am also taking immune suppresents to get my eyes ready for my graft at the end of october and i am worried about having a infection!!!
Any sympathy will do i feel so poorly :(

Loads of sympathy, empathy, tlc is definitely called for! I got conjunctivitis when I still had stitches in both my grafts and remember two weeks of agony, and tears streaming down my face the whole time. I don't remember it going to my glands though. But I felt extremely rough. In my case, it did go after 2 wks, so I do hope yours clears in that time, if not before, so that you'll still be OK for the second op. Feeling for you!

Hi Anne,

Glad to hear you're a bit better today. And no, although it was very unpleasant at the time, and I'm sure I was worried sick, once the conjunctivitis had cleared both my grafts were fine. Best wishes for a speedy clear-up!

Anne just be scrupulously clean with your hands when touching your grafted eye, make sure you have washed them well first to prevent cross infection.

I'm glad things are a bit better today. Keep using the antibiotic drops until you hvar finished the course! did they give you a systemic antibiotic for the swollen glands?

All the best
