Does anyone know if Toric Contact lenses are better suited for treating astigmatism than glasses?

thanks

Thats a very complicated question!

For a start, astigmatism can't be "treated". It comes about due to the shape of your cornea, the shape of the lens in your eye or a combination of both.

Normally, it can be corrected by glasses but if the astigmatism is irregular (ie the two power meridians are not at right angles to each other) then glasses won't work so well. Also, if you have a lot of astigmatism, your vision can be distorted by the correcting glasses in which case toric contact lenses would be better.

However, some people never get on with toric lenses becasue they can rotate off axis thus causing blurring.

In the end it all depends on your individual case!

My thoughts are with Toric IOLS rather than contact lenses.

I've had Intacs but the best corrected vision in the right eye is only 6/9 - i'm therefore going to see if IOLS are an option to correct the astigmatism (which is -4.00)

Ahhh well.. that's different.. you DID ask about contacts though!

You would have to ask a surgeon for an opinion as this would depend on the success of your intacs and of course would completely depend on your intacs staying in there!
