Big news today - well to me anyway

Went to see my KC specialist Optician today. This is a proper optician, that I have been referred to by the Opthalmic Clinic at the local hospital, not just one of your high street names. This outfit know exactly what they are talking about when it comes to KC and lenses.

I was prescribed RGP lenses back in November, and to be honest, I've really struggled with them. Great discomfort and really dismayed at how badly I've done. I know there are lots on here who've done a lot better than me and I am a little ashamed, but I thought I'd better own up to my shortcomings today and went back to seek help. :(

Now I don't know if this is general knowledge or not, but one of the major lens manuafacturers has just started promoting (within the last week) a brand new lens that does the same job as RGP, but is actually made of the same material as soft lenses and is supposed to be almost as comfortable as a softee to wear. The optician asked if I'd like to be his Guinea Pig...I could have kissed him.

So they are on order and due in about a week, and I admit to being absolutely thrilled at the prospect.

I asked if I could get a copy of the sales literature so that I could spread the word on here, but sadly they only had one copy and didn't want to let it go. I don't even know the manufacturer's name but if they are as good as they sound, they could make a difference. The Optician said he didn't know how they had managed to make such a lens, but if it works then it could be fantastic.

All I can say is I am hugely excited and I promise to let you all know how I get on. If they do the job that is promised then this could make a hell of a difference to so many of us.

I will report back as soon as I can!!

Like you I have just been 'fitted' for soft lenses, and am so excited and can't wait to get them. I have used sclerals for many years, very successfully, but things have changed and I feel like I need to try other alternatives. I have not worn any lenses for a couple of months and when this soft lens as put in my eye it felt like a plaster covering a sore wound... Really very comfortable, my sight has been improved too. So roll on Feb 22nd.... Jacqueline.
