Mixed up lenses.....help!

Last night I took my right lens out and put it in the case, blinked out my left lens and it fell into the case that contained my right lens! I took them out and assumed the top lens ( they were together) was the last one in and it was the left one.
This morning I put them in and can see out of each eye but they dont feel right, is it because I am thinking about it? A bit like I am aware of the edge of my lenses but mainly when I talk about them. How can I tell if they are in the wrong eye?

I have got mixed up with my lenses and even tried using a right lens when I broke my left one . It really hurt when I put the wrong one in, so I took some comfort in being able to tell straight away.
I suppose everyone has different experiences. I know that some people have different tints to tell the lenses apart.

My lenses are different shades of blue and different sizes so I can feel which is which.

If in doubt,make your way to the optician and they should be able to look at them under a microscope and soon tell you if you have them the right way round.

My lenses are the same colour and size, the only slight difference I could see was one looked slightly more pointy than the other, I have steep KC in my left eye so put that lens in that eye, they do feel ok,I will try not to think about it and if I notice anything unusual I will go to see my optician.
The vision is a lot worse in my left eye so I think that if I put them in the wrong eyes I would not be able to see much and my vision is fine.
I will make sure I put the lids on in future

Hi Donna,

If you have to change your lenses in the near future, to get a better fit or whatever, its worth asking the optometrist if you can can have a slight but noticeable tint to one lens. It doesnt affect your vision (not noticeably anyway) but makes a lot of difference in identifying the buggers!

Wearing softperms I no longer have the option of a tint and I often get them muxed ip. My vision is very close between the two eyes and rather than discomfort I tend to get just a weird feeling.

Last week however I ended up putting two lenses in the same eye - at first I didnt notice (how I dont know) and spent a while searching the bathroom floor for the 2nd lens, panicing!

I think most of my problems come from being tired when putting the lenses away - If I put them away wrong I've got no chance the morning!!

Don't worry though, this happens to all of us (I think) and I just try and laugh it off.

I find it quite staggering how experienced professionals overlook the practicalities of contact lens wearers by not prescribing lenses so the chances of putting the lens in the wrong eye are not minimised.

Its so easy as others have posted in the past. Its disappointing that in order to do this you have to ask or prompt this.

A different tint:- gReen for right eye and bLue for left eye.

Having said that my latest rgp lenses prescribed by Dr Cindy Tromans at MREH came and they are both blue. I forgot to mention it

Ed does wearing them both in one eye give you super x-ray vision?
A different tint is an excellent idea, I did ask the optician about the chance of mixing them up and was told 'dont'! They are both blue I wont have the right one for long , my vision is rapidly getting worse in that eye so I expect that i will need a new one before long anyway and that one will have the different tint

I had an R engraved on my right lens and an L on my left and this is how I knew which was which - until I had my lenses repolished at my last visit and these markings were polished out!

There is a very slight difference in tint so if I put them side by side I can tell which is which.

If I do get them in the wrong eyes I usually take a few days to notice because although the prescriptions are widely different I can still see!

I got excellent vision with a plain lens that had no power to it so can see how you could see out of the wrong lens i think mine are in the right eyes now!
