Hi

I recently noticed I sometimes see a small black dot in my vision. This usually happens when its really sunny/hot...I dunno if anyone else experiences this?? Its not there all the time but I notice it must be something related to light levels.

These are quite common and we usually refer to them as 'floater' quite harmless and you do get used to them and the brain ignores them.

I've had them for 20 years now, they coincided with my KC. Only notice them when read posts like yours really

It's good to know its common, and yeah I think I only notice then so much because its recently started happening...hope I start ignoring them soon.

I've got lots of black dot floaters - and your brain does get used to them. they become more noticeable when reading or looking at something with a light background. They move about. I get "cobwebs" too - although fortunately no spiders in them!

But if you get a larger black dot in your central vision which doesn't go away - then do get it checked out

Hi everybody

can I re-iterate the need to get large floaters and a sudden increase in small floaters checked urgently. If you also get a " dark curtain effect " in the corner of the vision, this could be the signs of a detached retina.
I had this last Christmas Day and it was the prompt action of my GP, Local eye hospital and Morefields which saved my sight in the left.
Do not think you are wasting anybodys time. Get it checked!

Yes, I am going to check it out with my op - I need my lenses updated once again aswell.

Also i have my hosp appointment coming up.

But thanks once again for all the advice it really helps.

I never had a black dot till after my second graft. Turned out to be a BURNED area on my retina from the focus of the surgical lamp. I'm learning to live with it.

Mark is absolutely right about getting these checked out. And glad to hear you had a good outcome from your scare Mark.

Actually, it was noticing my dots & cobwebs (minus spiders!) and getting them properly checked out some 3-4 years ago which eventually led to my diagnosis of KC (which if you've read one of my other posts, I may now not have.......!) But in my case they are just floaters.......
