Opticians Bills

I was diagnosed in January 2006 with KC and shelled out over £300.00 for rigid contact lenses. This year upon a new eye test I now have to spend a further £450.00 on new glasses and more contact lenses and I am finding it very hard to get used to them and get immediate vision whilst doing PC work in my day to day job and end up going back to using the glasses.
Has anyone else experienced this and has anyone managed to seek financial help from their work place or elsewhere as I can see this annual bill becoming more and more expensive.
Many thanks
Andrew

You should be able to get RGP's on the NHS - the costs are £50.50 per lens so a maximum of £101 per annum. I have to pay for glasses on top of this.

Are you getting your lenses privately? If so, either change your optician, or challenge them? Possibly one of the optoms on this forum can help with the up to date position generally, but the above costs are what I have paid for the hospital visits.

Hi Andrew

welcome to the forum
sorry to hear of your diagnosis
Are you being treated privately?

If you are then get yourself refered to the nearest specialist KC clinic/hospital through your GP under the NHS.
Most private consultants work for the NHS so the experience is the same, but the resources usually greater.
The difference is that the NHS cost of lenses is £50.50 per eye.
I pay once a year and then any replacement lenses are usually free.
I'm sure other members will give you similar information.
hope this helps and good luck to you

keep us posted on your progress and dont be afraid to ask anything
