Intacs up North

Postby helen jones » Mon 21 May 2007 9:51 pm

Can't attend meeting in London but interested in finding out more about Intacs as I find it impossible to wear GP lenses. Does anyone know of consultant(s) nearer to Manchester area who do the procedure? Internet search has not found any. Also anyone succeeded in getting it done on NHS?

I notice you are from Manchester , so i would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the first KC Group meeting to be held at MCR royal eye hospital.
the links are on the main menu.
we would be very happy to see you there , and for you to meet other people with KC to discuss experiences.
we also have a guest speaker.

yopu are more than welcome to bring a guest /s along too.

I don't know of any consultants who do the Intacs procedure in Manchester.

At St Paul's Eye Unit in Liverpool RLUH both Mr Battersby and Mr Kaye, my consultant, have started to do Intacs. When I had my operation in February they were doing it as a trial, so there is the possibility that they will continue with the procedure. It took 13 months wait on the NHS though to get it done as it was a new procedure and at the time funding was not available.

Hopefully the NICE consultation will produce a positive outcome nd make the procedure more readily available on the NHS

At the moment, any NHS hospital that can do intacs has to request funding to do it. At the moment there is a NICE colnsultation inprogress to see if this can be made freely available to us on the NHS.

So at moment best to contact your eye surgeon or attend the Manchester first meet and ask them the question.
