Scleral lenses soultion

Hi,
I have recently been issued a scleral lens for my left eye and was wondering whether there was a cheaper way of buying the ami-bose solution, which is needed to fit the scleral lens.
I have been to my doctor who prescribed me this solution, but the pharmacist is having difficulty getting it for me. Is there anything else I could do?
Apologies if this has been posted before, but the cost to buy these solutions, which are a necessity, are extortionate.

I would try East Anglian Pharmaceuticals of Norwich, or any other Pharmaceutical wholesaler. Ami-Dose is expensive, and some days I know I can use a whole one. Jacqueline

Am I right in thinking Amidose is sterile saline in a rigid type tube?
When I was given scleral lenses 18 months ago I was advised to use STERETS Normasol (suggested on the label as for the topical irrigation of the eyes, burns and wounds).
I was told it was going to be probably the only solution that could be got for me in the North West and my GP has been putting it on prescription. The only down side to it is it comes in a sachet so can be a little floppy once opened and you need to stand it up in something whilst you do you lenses.
Hope this helps, Susan

Hi Dipesh,
I wear sclerals and use steripod blue saline which I get on prescription. The saline is exacltly the same as amidose, which I have been told is not a prescribable solution due to costs. The saline is 0.9% isotonic, preservative free. It is the same as normasol sachets, but these are difficult to manage as not in a rigid vial. Steripod blue comes as 25mls in boxes of 100. My GP prescribes 4 boxes each time. You can also buy it over the counter but of course costs more. Good Luck.

Hi
we use steripod tubes too - big box on prescription . Open one each morning , use to rinse and fill the lens. keep it upright in the day (drop it in a corner of the box) and put some drops in teh eye if its tired or dry. We use up the rest of the pod to rinse the lenses at end of day (using miraflow cleanser to get rid of greasy deposits).
If we need more rinse solution we use ordinary saline from tesco/asda which is OK for rinsing but not sterile so not OK for in lenses/eye.
(I started by using kettle water till the optician said he wouldnt even rinse his car with kettle water - and i tried fridge filter water which the optician called 'pondlife' and banned!!!)

also on the subject of sclerals ---
I havent been able to get the lens cleaning solution we have had for 2 years, MIraflow.
Can anyone suggest the best alternative, or a good source of supply?
Im nervous of trying the one Boots recommend without experienced KC backing!

Hi Kate,
I am going to give
http://www.postoptics.co.uk a go £3.95 for 25ml. Do not know if this is good as I do not use it, but from some of the offers they have, I culd save about £60 a year on my RGP lens solutions!
If people are interested in trying this company, let me know the feedback as it might be possible to ask for a KC Group discount.
Regards
Gareth

Asda own brand 'Daily Contact Lens Cleaner' has the same active ingredients as Miraflow. Costs £1.99 for 25ml and comes recommended by Ken Pullum at Moorfields.
What is the cost of Amidose by the way ?
I need to find a good regular supplier shortly and am not best pleased that this essential solution is not permanently prescribed for scleral lens users.

Hi,
The cost of Amidose is quite expensive I recently paid £48+ for 4 boxes, which equates to 48 tubes.
I will have to try the steripod blue saline as suggested in this post and see how it goes.

I don't want to sound thick but.....
...why is that these solutions are not available on prescription if they are essential for the sight of scleral lens users ?
Apologies in advance if this has already been answered elsewhere.
