I am sorry to hear that you have lost your job over a discrepancy in the cash. If you are a member of a Trade Union, I suggest that you go to speak to your Union Rep. Otherwise, I suggest that the Citizens Advice Bureau would be in a position to tell you your rights.

All the best

Please please please - speak to both Action for Blind People and the Disability Rights Commission. They have been a fantastic help for me in relation to my problems at work. Phone numbers on their websites - they are on your side.

AFTB have Employment Law specialists who provide free advice, and DRC have people who can tell you exactly what your rights are and can give you real practical help.

Let us know how you get on.

Take care - it's tough but you have friends here to help you through it.

Michelle - nothing to add to Pat's excellent advice. What's happened to you is appalling so do get expert help. Employment advisors at RNIB should also be able to help and I'm sure their new Employment Retention Officer would be interested to hear of this (see my announcement of the conference he is organising for employers). Please keep us posted and let us know if there is anything the KC Group can help with.

Hi

I'm really sorry to hear this.

However, don't worry, help is at hand and you have already been pointed in the right direction. However, if you want to talk in general terms, please feel free to contact me.

So sorry to hear about that, it really sux and sounds VERY wrong on their behalf.
Just a suggestion (im only new to this site). Knowing how sometimes people have trouble navigating the internet, wouldnt it be a good idea to post the web addresses for such companies (listed above and otherwise) somewhere on the forum topic involved or maybe in a support groups item at the top of the page? That way you can navigate directly to their site in your times of need (even if you are under emotional strain)? Sometimes it is hard to think properly, and if you have a direct feed to more info it can help a lot. Just a suggestion.

Surprisingly it is amazing with what employers will try and get away with. A well known energy company who sponsors the FA Cup did this to me last December. There is now a claim going through which they are denying.

Michelle, sorry to hear about this.
HOw long had you been working there?
What sort of a place is it? - shop,, office, warehouse.... and is it a small, medium, large, etc company, public sector,,,?
Is handling cash a large part of the job? Have you had any reasons before to think you were having difficulties abecause of your eyesight, and maybe getting it wrong becuase of that?
Is there any "reasonable adjustment" that could be made to help you cope? - fit a magnifying glass over the till cash tray, maybe??
Have you mentioned problems with the caseh caused by your eyes befoore, and asked for help?

I agree with advice to contact your union, of CAB if you don't have one.
Sadly, there are businesses (and public secctor and even charity organisations) who have duffered from workers with their fingers int he tiill/petty cash. Some of these have resorted to the hard line - any new employee joins, watch the cash closely. First sign of any mismatch, haul person over the coals, any repeat, kick them out. No excuses considered, no leeway. Bang bang you're out.
Sadly, you may be a sufferer of the fallout from this - basically a victim of a predessor's... well, dishonesty, carelessness of oor mworking practices, to be fair it could be either.
HOpe you get it sorted out.
