Hydrops

After waiting a while and trying various lenses I finally had lenses in both eyes that worked, but unfortunately suffered from an episode of hydrops in my left eye, the worse one. Totally put me off the idea of lenses all together so stopped wearing one in my right eye also for a few months while waiting for my conea to heal, and managed another episode of hydrops in the left eye again. My consultant says it really shouldn't affect the healing too much thankfully. I have my final exams soon so decided to try lenses in the right eye again and was doing well with them until I somehow managed to get an eye infection with only 2 days till my finals. I think I just have really bad luck sometimes.

Hi Bruce,

While you are not wearing your lenses remember to clean them regularly following good hygeine practices. This will drastically reduce the risk of a re infection.

Many here have reported post hydrops, the vision has actually improved due to the scaring left strengthening the cornea.

Here's hoping your luck will change soon and good luck for the finals. Make sure the examiners are aware of your circumstances and you have a letter from the hospital.

Before your esams start take a medical certificate to the exam board (if you are at a University or college, your tutor or advisor of studies is the person to approach.)

Remember if you have not been wearing any lenses for a while that you will have to build up again, an hour a day. Do not try to plunge right in with a long day.

Thanks Guys,

My personal tutor and school office are aware of the problem but its still a pain in the neck and I really want to do as much as I can. I just don't want to feel like I got an easy ride through my exams, silly I know but just want to prove I can actually do it even without being able to see much. Had first exam today which went ok apart from the fact that when I first went in to the exam hall I sat at the wrong section because I couldn't read the exam titles on the desks at standing height. One of my friends spotted this and thankfully told me I was sat in the wrong section and about to sit the wrong exam.Very embarrassing in a big exam hall but lightened the mood a bit I guess.
Wish me luck for tomorrow. I hope I don't have to examine someones ears for my ENT station as I won't be able to see a thing.

When I did my A levels I felt exactly as you do now. Once I went to Uni I had the opton of not doing any of the practicals, but to show I could achieve as much as anyone else, post graft in the second year I did all year two of the degree plus all the tyear one practicals.

At then end of it all I got an upper second honours degree.

Come pplying for a job I mentioned my sight problems and I have been told on several occassions I got the job not on academic grounds but because I demonstarted I had guts and determination as I had overcome a sight problem.
