Exercise 3 months post-graft

Postby craigthornton » Mon 09 Apr 2007 5:02 pm

I know from my consultant that at the minute I am only allowed to cycle and not run, but I forgot to ask about sit-ups.

Does anyone know if you can do this so soon after, as I suppose it puts some strain on you.

Also, does the advice about not lifting apply for the rest of your life or just some time after the op?[/b]

I'm going to have to monitor my calorie intake in the meantime, I'm starting to resemble Mr Potato Head!

Post-graft exercise

Postby Jack Maitland » Mon 09 Apr 2007 8:17 pm

Craig,
I started riding in a commuting sort of way the day after the op., did a gentle road ride at 2 weeks and by 4 weeks felt able to ride more or less normally. First post-op run was at just over 3 weeks and after a cautious first outing I was fine to do whatever afterwards. Yoga I started at 5 days post-op but modified things considerably and I still (at nearly 6 weeks) haven't done any inversions beyond a couple of breaths. I'm thinking about swimming but am going to wait until my check-up next week to see how the eye is healing and even then I might hold out a bit longer as can see the obvious risks of irritating the eye.
