Andrew,
I mentioned rape seed pollen to my doctor and he shook his head, he told me that the pollen from rape seed is insect borne and not wind borne therefore it doesn't cause hayfever  I too suffer when it comes out so he hasn't convinced me :) I suffer when the conker trees come into flower we used to have one right outside our bedroom window and it was not pleasant :(

Your Doc is wrong. Show him this

Or, maybe just the conclusion:

Conclusion: The present results allow the identification of a new rapeseed allergen that can be the main allergen for some patients.

I am allergic to everything! My hayfever starts early and finishes late Autumn, I have loads of allergies. I am very allergic to dust so have hayfever symptoms all year round! I also get hayfever so bad I get a itchy rash on my neck, itchy ears ( inside) the roof of my mouth gets itchy and I get very tired and sometimes have a temperature. there is a vaccine for people who suffer badly and it does work but is not for asthmatics like me .
I can cope with it all though but now dont want my eyes to get sore.

I too suffer from the Oilseed rape pollen or whatever it is! But I find I'm at my worst not when it comes in to flower, but as the flowers just start to die off. No idea why! But it's a nightmare for me for just a short time. Piriton usually works.
Fortunately I've not had a major problem with hay fever in general though, but I feel for those of you that do!

I have had sucess with piriton in the past - but it does tend to knock me out! Piriteze seemed better for me last year (although some clever clogs on this forum is bound to know that these two are the same thing in different packets!)

According to the packets Piriton contains chorpheniramine maleate Ph. Eur. while Piriteze contains Cetirizine Hydrochloride :? - this as you can well imagine makes all the difference in the world - obviously

I company I am involved with retails Bee pollen tablets which are supposed to be taken 6 weeks before the hayfever season starts.

I have no idea if they actually work but if anybody does take them and they do the job, I would be most interested to hear from you.

Lesley,

I suffer with oil seed rape and it is due to spores from a fungi that grows on the oil seed rape. It gives me the exact same symptoms as hayfever.
