Electroretinogram

Postby Drew Radcliffe » Sun 28 Nov 2004 11:57 pm

Hi Dave

Ive had one. I understand its to check that the retina is generating the correct electrical impulses and that the optic nerves are carrying these impulses as they would expect.

The test I had lasted about an hour. Take someone with you as it does leave you a bit dazed and confused afterwards.

The consultant that did mine stuck some electrodes on the back of my head and above my eyes. Then she put an electrode made of thin silver wire under my eye lid (its no worse than contacts and you barely notice it)

They then show you a video screan of a chess board with the cheques alternating blackwhite.

The second part of the test they flash white light at you for a short period then stop.

The electrodes pick up the signals generated from this they can map electrically what you should be able to see.
