Hydrops and KC

Postby Dipesh » Mon 01 Nov 2004 1:15 pm

Hi,

This is all new to me and would like some advise. I have KC in my right eye and up until last month I was issued with an Slceral Lens for my left eye. Last Saturday I found the eye sight in my right eye had gone white, thinking I had aggravated it due to dust flying around at home.

On the Monday when I felt this was not right I went to Moorfields casualty department where they prescribed me with eye drops and eye cream. I have been you using these drops a week now and can say there has been a little improvement. Apart from the uncomfortable aspect of feeling like I have dirt in my eye I continue to remain positive that this will clear up.

1) Can you some one advise me whether I need to doing anything else? 2) Also is it normal for the eye to look saw and red?

Dipesh

In had a similar experience maybe 2 months ago on a Saturday night.

All of a sudden I felt as though I had something in my eye (like dust) although I didn't experience any loss of vision (well no more than usual anyway!!!).

After about an hour of trying to wash it out I gave in and my wife took me to the local casualty unit where they tried sweeping my eye, but no-one could find anything.

After a while it went away and I assumed that the foriegn body had found it's way out, but the similarities with your experience are so great that I wonder if indeed it was down to the KC.

My advice would be that the average A&E department hasn't got a clue about KC so get to your specialist ASAP and get it looked at. They should be able to help.

This actually happened again to me on the following Tuesday and I attended A&E again and again it eased off after a while. That was as I say about 2 months ago and hasn't happened again.

Let us know how you are getting on!

Well, me too.

On Sunday 31st Oct I went to bed as usual thinking my right eye felt a little gritty and put it down to the fact I had been to the cinema and worn my scleral lens so I could see, something I had not done that often just lately as the lens is in the process of being refitted.

On Mon am I awoke with a red eye and by Mon pm it was itchy and irritated.

On Tues morn I spent what felt like all morning on the phone to the eye clinic and was seen as an emergency in that afternoons clinic. A swab was taken and I too was given drops for daytime and cream for at night (both antibiotics). Up until yesterday (Sun 7/11) my eye remained very red and sore feeling almost gritty and at times as if something was stuck in it.

Today is the first day it has felt ok and I am still on the drops and cream along with a follow up appointment at the eye clinic on Fri 12/11. Hopefully it will be confirmed it was just a nasty eye infection, maybe it is the time of year???

Hope all goes well

Susan

Hey, Thanks your replies they were useful.

After posting my original post I found an article on Hydrops. It gave me some idea on the time scale it may take to clear.

This is my 4th week on he drops and cream and am both happy and angry that it is working but yet no cleared. On a brighter note, I am now able to wear my RGP lens for the whole day, which is good. Although having read some other articles on Lens usage, it may not be the best course of action.

I have received my Hospital Appt @ Moorfields for the 1st Dec, so am crossing my fingers they have some good news.

Will keep you posted after my hospital visit.

I thought I'd give you an update from my Hydrop episode.

Well after my visit in December the consultant @ Moorfields prescribe me with FML drops in the hope that it would help clear the Hydrops. A subsequent visit in Feb proved very different.

As a result of that visit a different consultant felt hat the Hydrop would clear at all. They have no put me on the Corneal Graft list and have an appointment for April this is year.

Having read various peoples post of Grafts I feel confident that I will be ok, although I am apprehensive of going into theatre as I have never had to have an operation before.

I am now in the process of informing my work of what will happen and can anyone offer any advice on what they should be informed about. (I.e. length of time off work, what happens when I come back etc)?
